Udupi, Jul 21: A woman servant, who worked for Shiroor Swamiji, has been taken into police custody.
Swamiji died on Thursday, July 19, due to suspected food poisoning.
He was admitted earlier to a hospital after he complained of stomach ache and vomiting. He breathed his last without responding to treatment.
Hiriadka police had taken up the investigations soon after the death. The post-mortem revealed poisonous substances in the body. More reports are awaited from laboratories.
Cheating due to real estate dealings has been cited by some people as the possible reason.
Shiroor Swamiji
Pejawar Swamiji had said on Friday that Shiroor Swamiji consumed liquor in excess and had relationship with two women.
As per some reports, the woman servant, whom the police have taken into custody, is the one with whom the deceased seer had maintained close relationship. He had allegedly bought a house for her at Kinnimulki and also a car. The same car was allegedly spotted near the Math earlier.
