Mangalore, Oct 7: The families of those arrested on suspicion of terrorist links have said that they are shocked at the media reports which are presenting facts in a different light.

Mymuna, wife of Muhammad Ali, one of the arrested said that he is innocent and a strong believer in humanity. She accused the media of fabricating the allegations against him. ‘My husband has not left the house even for a day. But some media reports have said that he visited Surat, Hyderabad, and other places, with a person known as Ahmed Bawa. It is contradictory to fact,’ added Mymuna.

Speaking to Daijiworld, she said that a large number of policemen had barged into their house in the wee hours on Friday October 3 and asked about Ahmed Bawa. ‘We do not know a person named Ahmed Bawa. But the police asked us repeatedly and beat my husband and locked him in a room. Later, they took him and my son Javed Ali. They asked us to hand over pistols to them. We do not have weapons as such. The police also threatened to arrest us.’

Inaaz, daughter of Muhammad Ali, said that her father does not know to operate a computer. The computer has remained untouched for the past six months due to a technical problem, she said. The police took the CDs of Islamic preachings, and the CPU.

‘He used to watch computer games and he was interested in learning about Islam. Therefore, he used to bring CDs which contained messages of peace and brotherhood which tries to remove the misconception over Islam. Our computer also had no internet connection, added Inaz.

She alleged that some media persons interviewed her and misquoted her turning the reports to say that the family had confessed to her father’s terrorist links. She said they had settled in Mukkacherri a month ago, before which they lived at Maryhill.

Irshad, father of Naushad, another of the arrested, said that nothing was found in their house except some CDs of Islamic preachings by scholars. He added that media reports were confusing. ‘The police have taken the CPU and some CDs and Noushad’s bike from my house. Nothing else was found in my house. But the media reported that bombs and cash were seized from my house. It has deeply hurt me.’

He said that his other son Naahid, was also arrested but released after three days in police custody.

‘Naushad is an innocent boy. One cannot expect such an incident in his life. We believe in justice. Terrorism cannot be justified. Whatever CDs police have taken were bought by me. As for now, the police have taken four mobile phones from our house. They also took my passport and have not returned it, said Irshad.

I say and repeat, the minorities are facing difficulties in BJP ruled states in India. We are solely responsible for this tragic situation .The next election is shortly due and all minorities should vote for the Congress without exception and throw them out of power then only we can live in peace in our country.

Now a days in india innocent can be trapped & criminal will enjoy the benifits & move free.  It is also possible if a case belongs to some body, money can over rule the same case on a innocent head if he is weak.

Mr. Irshad is working in Kuwait and proceeded for Eid Holidays. As we all know him he is a very sober humble person with firm belief in justice & rejects all sort of terrorism.Impounding his passport cannnot be justified. It seems there is planned conspiracy to have educated well placed Muslims to be removed from their work places. His passport should be immediately released to him so that he can come back to kuwait to continue his job.

Double standards of media The inferences from these observations are too disturbing. We seem to be heading for two sets of justice system as a whole. The ones belonging to minority community, suffer maximum in the communal carnage.

They get killed, their properties are destroyed. The guilty in these cases are generally not punished. Those aiding and abetting these crimes get away with it and sometimes even promoted. In other case the blasts and acts of terror, if Muslims are involved the cases are investigated and punishments are meted out in due course.

There were many a delegations which went to represent to the government to implement the findings of Shrikrishan Commission, etc etc but justice for riots victims has been deliberately buried under the political inaction of different governments. It is reflective of the political parties, the political system and the bureaucratic structure which is coming to be.

While some parties like BJP are aggressively pursuing the communal agenda, the others are opportunistic enough not to think of justice in a principled way. Congress, while paying lip service to secular values has mostly compromised with the communal elements and most of the times it does not have the spine to take the challenge of rising communalism.

This is having very adverse impact on the socio-psychology of the minority communities. At one level they seem to be loosing faith in the whole system, as the current double standards of the ruling party shows.

Terrorism is an anti-national activity. Any groups/websites/media that supports or sympathizes with anti-national elements should also be rounded up and locked up. This is much more than party/religion based politics.

BJP has no moral ethic and has no right to rule peace loving state like Karnataka. Mangalore police are just agent of Bajrangdal, VHP and BJP. Whenever they want, they pick up any one at their will and arrest them.

I do agree that all we should support that the criminals should be punished but not innocent. Today in Mangalore, only innocent are punished and culprits are walking freely without any fear. This is the time for Christians and Muslim get together and vote for one party which protect the minority.

Dear Acharya Your comment seems to have been misread by the one commentator. I agree with you most of evening papers, local vernacular dailies even some websites blogs are eager to pass the judgement. That's how the minds have been poisoned. Such opinions of utter prejudice are openly aired and create a unhealthy impression in the minds of readers and mar the reputation of inocent people caught in the cross fire.

Trial by Media is the latest trend started by evening newspapers- promptly adopted by the 24 hour news channels, crime reports- all for viewership! Sadly the alternate media- that is web pages and blogs too are falling into the similar trend(for want of hits). This probably is one of the ill effects of "information age". Self restraint alone is the answer for this malady, as no law can prevent such acts.

Police or Media doesnt have any rights, unless court has proved the guilty of any criminal. Any media providing wrong information should be closed, if Govt fails to take this action, then we (public) should take this step and should teach media and news agency and a never forgetable lesson.

Unfortunately there is NO GAG on the police going to the media before completing an investigation nor is there any law to put them behind bars instead, for wrongful accusations. Inept & stupid as they are, what else can they achieve by their 'lathi technology' other than satisfying their political masters. Such incidents not only hurt everyone of us but devastates the victims & their families.

To my fellow innocent Indians do not loose HOPE. No doubt we have a 'faltu' democracy to boast of, nonetheless let us through these columns get to gether and work for changing the system through the forthcoming BALLOT.

These are really tough times for minorities, especially in BJP ruled states. The false accusations in the name of forcible conversion and terrorism are to be seen and read against the background of BJP's 'divide and rule' strategy. It is high time that all the minorities woke up and formed a 'collective voice' to counter and suppress the 'hate agenda' of the BJP and its militant 'cheddi' outfits which is threatening to deface the secular fabric of our country.

Just as Muslim friends expressed their solidarity when Christians were in pain, it is time the Christians reciprocate this good gesture by condemning these fake arrests of Muslims in the name of terrorism.
