Mangaluru: DCP flags off traffic awareness walkathon and cartoon expo

Mangaluru Jul 21: DCP - Crime and Traffic, Uma Prashanth, flagged off students' walkathon as part of traffic management and safety month, held at St Aloysius College on Saturday, July 21.

The department of commerce along with NCC unit of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru organized the walkathon.

The walkathon started at St Aloysius College and concluded at Forum Fiza Mall. Scores of students took part in this walkathon.

Road Safety month started on July 1 and will conclude on July 31. A variety of programmes related to the road safety are organised in several cities to enlighten people on maintaining road discipline, enhancing safety and following driving rules. 

After the walkathon, Uma Prashanth inaugurated 'Traffic Toons' an exhibition of traffic awareness caricatures by 25 different cartoonists.

Speaking on the occasion, the DCP said," It’s good to see large number of students taking part in this walkathon to spread awareness on traffic rules to the public. These traffic caricatures spread a strong message on traffic awareness. I thank all cartoonists who contributed for the ‘Traffic Toons’ expo. I also urge students to wear helmets while driving
and follow the traffic rules".

Traffic Inspector Amanulla, Manikanth, cartoonist John Chandran and others were present.

    What about the roads some photos we can see loose stones which are dangerous for the riders. In some photos we can see the zebra crossings are all faded and not painted. What is the corporation doing ? When we have such bad infrastructure accidents will surely be there. Just opposite the central library I mean across the St. Aloysius College road there are a few shops the vehicle's parked on the footpath the DCP and the local corporator should look into it. The road and the footpath are almost the same level.

    Take action against all traffic offenders. Police must strictly take offenders into custody. Specially against Bus drivers and Auto drivers. No parking must follow strictly. Awareness programme is not required. Every citizen is fully aware only Police action required.

    It is good to see D.C.P. Uma Prashant taking the trouble to flag off Traffic awareness program organized by St. Aloysius College. I had the privilege of flagging off a similar program organized by The Parish Priest of Rosario Church where a number auto scooters and motorcycles were cautiously driven by drivers from different walks of life

    It is expedient to highlight that these programs should encourage people to join THE TRAFFIC WARDENS SQUAD and help in the matter of controlling the traffic and reducing accidents and accidental deaths.
