Bengaluru, Jul 24: "Irrigation projects take very long to complete. Still, water from Yettinahole project is expected to reach the plains within the next one and half years," said former chief minister of Karnataka and MP, D V Sadananda Gowda.
Gowda recollected that he had given his nod for the Yettinahole project, even though it meant going against the wishes of the people of Malnad region.
"Districts like Kolar, Chikkaballapur and Bengaluru rural have hard working people who will grow rich crops if they get irrigation facility. This region is well-known for high quality vegetables and silk. If the water bodies in this region are filled even once, it can result in improving the underground water table, thus making the land fertile," he opined.
