Udupi: Shiroor Swamiji demise - investigation in progress, DVR found missing

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jul 24: The mysterious disappearance of digital video recorder (DVR) in Shiroor Math has given rise to a number of suspicions. District superintendent of police (SP), Laxman Nimbargi, confirmed that during the visit to the Math, DVR was found missing. He said that it will have to be found out whether the DVR was not present in the Math since long, or whether it went missing after Swamiji’s death. The police plan to investigate the issue and find out the truth.

The Math had DVR sometime back. Theft of a few cows during February this year from the cattle shed of the Math had been captured by the camera, and Shiroor Swamiji had provided full details of the theft by relying on video footage from the DVR. The news and footage then had got wide publicity through WhatsApp and other social websites.

As per information, the DVR box was stationed inside the room of the Swamiji and no staff members were allowed entry into this office. Therefore, the notion that the DVR went missing only recently is getting credence.

It is said that during the visit of the Math by the SP on Monday, he was accompanied by a medical practitioner as he wanted to collect details of medicines used by the Swamiji. The SP collected some items from the Math and told the media persons present there that investigation is progressing and that the police are pooling together pieces of information. "We are waiting for the forensic science laboratory report. Till then no action can be taken. This being a high profile case, we need to prepare detailed report. As investigation has to be conducted from all angles and everything needs to be examined minutely, it may take more days for the investigation to reach a conclusion," he explained.

Pointing to a bottle found inside the premises, the SP said that some media had projected this to be a bottle of poison. He added that he was seeing that bottle for the first time. He dismissed reports carried by certain media houses that a woman close to the Swamiji had been taken to Mumbai for questioning and that a police team has also gone to Mumbai for investigation.

The priest performing puja at the base Math, Shiroor, and cleaning staff are given two hours in the morning and evening to complete their task. Police have been deployed around the Math premises. Sode Math has deployed a person named Subramanya Bhat, who was earlier working for Shiroor Math, to take care of the jewellery and other things.

As investigation is still on, Sode Math is yet to take over administration of Shiroor Math and its assets as per custom.

this is shocking... now inside people must answer or accept that they were a part of the game. How can this happen .... this can not be a simple statement as DVR is missing. Investigation should go to the direction to check where and how the DVR got missed. that itself will reveal the involvers. But yes, everything if feasible only if the police really wants to nab the culprits... if they don't want , then this can be the first excuse to safeguard the culprits.
