Mangaluru, Jul 24: The proposal for the project, under the ambitious 'Bharatmala' scheme of the central government, in which the 3.5 km stretch of road between Kulur and Baikampady will be upgraded into a 10-lane concrete road is ready. This proposal has been submitted by the Mangaluru National Highway Authority to the central highway department. There is a possibility of recruiting consultants in the next step for the detailed survey and drawing of the map.
If the project gets implemented, then the coastal district will have its first 10-lane road, which will help a great deal for the Kulur-Baikampady stretch, which has many renowned industries of the country.
Meeting in New Delhi next week
There is a possibility of the recruitment of consultants after getting the nod for the proposal in the meeting that will be held in New Delhi in the next week.
Earlier, a proposal costing Rs 925 crore was sent to the centre in order to develop this stretch of road. However, the centre considered that proposal as expensive and directed to draw a new proposal. Now the new proposal is estimated to cost Rs 300 crore.
Six-lane road between BC Road and Baikampady
Before starting the 10-lane work on the stretch between Kulur and Baikampady, the road between B C Road and Baikampady will be widened to accommodate six lanes. This is being done in order to connect Bengaluru with the coastal district. The consultant for the survey and map plan of this project is already nominated and the project will be implemented based upon their report.
Six-lane bridge at Kulur
There is a plan to demolish the existing old bridge at Kulur, which is built over the Phalguni river and construct a new bridge having six lanes. The proposal includes the mention of the construction of the bridge also.
Flyovers at Nanthoor and KPT
Under the Bharatmala project, a six-lane road will be built between Nanthoor and Kulur. The proposal for this project is yet to be sent to the centre. However, due to the increasing traffic woes of the city of Mangaluru flyovers will be built at Nanthoor and KPT. This is already mentioned in the proposal that is submitted to the
centre.

Survey to be done after acceptance, says Nalin
Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, said, "Approval has been already received from the centre for building a six-lane road from Bengaluru to Mangaluru under the Bharatmala project. A proposal to build a 10-lane road in the industrial zone which is under the seaport limits has been sent to the centre. This will be approved soon and the next step of the survey will the begun."
