Udupi: Will Swamiji's demise encourage government to make fresh takeover bid?

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jul 25: Some reports have speculated that the death of Shiroor Swamiji may encourage the government to make a fresh bid to take over the administration of Sri Krishna Math once again.

After Shiroor Swamiji breathed his last, a number of reports have been appearing in different media. Police department has been sending daily progress reports to the government. Some reports relate this death with relationship the Swamiji had with women, liquor consumption etc.

These things make the people to view all the Maths and their heads with suspicion. Using the volatile situation, some quarters might try to bring pressure on the government to take over the administration of the Maths including Sri Krishna Math.

Some are said to be eagerly waiting to indulge in character assassination of Pejawar Math Swamiji, who has always been seen with pro-Hindu organizations. It is said that they do not want to lose a chance to deliver strong blow to the rightist organizations by making best use of this opportunity.

The government, a few years back, had made an attempt to take over administration of Maths but the courts and the BJP government which came to power later, had stymied these efforts. There is information that many people, who had vehemently argued for taking over administration of Maths by the government, are busy collecting information and documents now to make a strong case to end the supremacy of Swamijis in Sri Krishna Math affairs.

In connection with the unnatural death of Shiroor Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji, some posts which are aimed to threaten and deride Kemaru Sri Esha Vittaldas Swamiji, who was perceived to be close to the deceased seer, have appeared in certain social websites.

There has been several attempts by government right from British days to bring Sri Krishna Matha of Udupi under administrative control of government. Infact , A case was won by Shiroor mutt predecessor Shri Laxmindra Thirta Swamiji in 1954 in Supreme court of India when Madras state tried to take over the mutt. This was before Karnataka state was formed in 1956 A.D. Udupi was in South Kanara district under administrative control of Madras state at that time.

Why should govt. interfere in temples, mosques and places of worship. Let govt mind its own business. There are people who can look after the places of worship.
