Mangaluru, Jul 28: Well-known professor of city, B S Raman, passed away on Friday, July 27 in Ooty in Tamil Nadu.
He was 81. He is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.
Prof B S Raman was born in Ooty. He was a student of extraordinary brilliance who scored many ranks from his high school to post-graduation.
In 1960, he joined St Aloysius College as lecturer. He retired in 1995. He was the head of department of commerce for many years. He introduced BBA for the first time in the region.
He was instrumental in the development commerce and accountancy subjects in the region as well as in the state. He wrote more than 100 books in commerce, economics, accountancy and law which were and are part of syllabus in many universities of India.
He was a disciplinarian. Many of the chartered accountants in city were his students.
After his retirement he stayed many years in Mangaluru. Later he stayed in Bengaluru for 4 years. He shifted to Ooty in recent years where he breathed his last.
Funeral will be held in Ooty on Saturday, July 28.
