Mangaluru, Jul 28: Well-known professor of city, B S Raman, passed away on Friday, July 27 in Ooty in Tamil Nadu.

He was 81. He is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.

Prof B S Raman was born in Ooty. He was a student of extraordinary brilliance who scored many ranks from his high school to post-graduation.

In 1960, he joined St Aloysius College as lecturer. He retired in 1995. He was the head of department of commerce for many years. He introduced BBA for the first time in the region.

He was instrumental in the development commerce and accountancy subjects in the region as well as in the state. He wrote more than 100 books in commerce, economics, accountancy and law which were and are part of syllabus in many universities of India.

He was a disciplinarian. Many of the chartered accountants in city were his students.

After his retirement he stayed many years in Mangaluru. Later he stayed in Bengaluru for 4 years. He shifted to Ooty in recent years where he breathed his last.

Funeral will be held in Ooty on Saturday, July 28.

We referred the books of prof.Raman and recommended the books for the degree and pg students of our college in vizag. We lost an emminent professor.May his soul rest in peace.
The books are simple in language, easy to follow and most helpful for the beginners and non commerce students.

I had the opportunity to meet Raman sir along with my daughter at hampankatta for the last time a few years ago,sir told me that it was his last day in Mangalore, i was really emotional,but happy that god gave me an opportunity to meet Raman sir for the last time.he spoke to my daughter for about fifteen minutes and advised her how she has to move forward in the field of accounts,sir we met after 27years,still u remembered my name,that shows ur love,thank you so much for your help,guidance and wonderful teaching,which i shall never forget,Rest in peace sir, we will always miss you and are always indebted to you sir

I'm not from Mangaluru and never been taught by him but the his books onbaccoumtancy and commerce used to be our syllabus In pre-university. In fact we used to get a commerce book bought for each accounting book that we purchased. Whatever accounting knowledge I've today is because of his book, I might have solved more complex problems for my CA but the fundamentals I've always relied on what I learnt in his books. The three golden rules mentioned in his book I apply that even today. If you master his book u don't need to go anywhere else for accounting knowledge. Thank you sir for the development of accounting knowledge in the state of Karnataka

I graduated from your BCom class in the 80's, but I still remember your easy approach to teaching till today. What a great teacher, with discipline, compassion and care for each and every student. You did not have to take attendance, but one glance was enough for you to know who is present in your class. You will be ever remembered for your simplicity, discipline, vast knowledge and sincerity to your profession.

First of all with great respect I will touch your feet. He was a great ever green unforgettable personality. I can say that he was a good human being rather than a teacher. I was his final year BCOM student during 1991 -92. He taught me accounts and Costing and many othermoral lessons ,after my fin al bcom result he told me to do MSW in tamilnadu and he assured me Jail superindent job too in tamilnadu (after completion of msw)..he organised commerce exhibition du ring that time' off course. ..,.he used to distribute cyclostyled notes to everyone without any discrimination.He was a great leader of St aloysius college and all of us. during that period for us it was very difficult to understand MC SHUKLA S ACCOUNTS and KUCHHAL S commercial law. His text books immensely helped the average students like me. .May his soul Rest In peace and my heart felt condolences to his family. ......Sir you will always remain alive in our heart for your good work. ..

In the passing of Prof. B.S. Raman, I have lost a Mentor, a Colleague, and a Friend. I was really fortunate to work under his guidance in the Commerce department of St. Aloysius college in the 80's. Even though I was the first lady lecturer of the college, I always felt at ease as Prof. Raman continuously provided me the encouragement and support to deal with any situation.

I read the tributes paid by many students. He truly deserves all of them. I am proud to say that it is through Prof. Raman that I have imbibed the values of discipline, punctuality and dedication towards work. My heartfelt condolences to his wife and children.

Prof BS Raman was my professor during my degree studies in SAC 1975-1977. An amazing teacher and a compassionate disciplinarian. He never got tired to repeat and solve problems to ensure everyone in the class, understands it fully. I still carry the book written by him " Advanced Accountancy" a book I have referred several time in the past few years. I will cherish his life and teaching for the rest of my life. SAC lost a great professor. May his soul rest in Peace.

Unexpected news. The passing of Mr Raman came as a rude shock to us. As our next door neighbour at SAC Staff Qtrs, we admired his excellent qualities of head and heart and held him in very high esteem. His memory shall be cherished. Sad to hear Prof. Raman's demise. Though I was not his student, I was using Commerce & Accountancy books authored by him, which were written in simple and easy-to-understand language especially to those who joined college after completing their High School in Kannada medium. I also remember hearing from my friends in St. Aloysius College on Prof. Raman's teaching capability and how disciplined he was. All the students who have benefitted from him and the students who are going to benefit from his books, are indebted to him. RIP sir.

RAMAN SIR I SALUTE YOU. I WAS IN ST ALOYSIUS FOR 5 YEAR 1974 TO 1979. Sir You were kind hearted helped and supported poor students like us. The way of explaining and solving accounts problems is great. Even now we used the lessons you taught us then. You use to pay for poor students fees from the royalty you were getting from the books you wrote. You used to invite us to staff room and sometimes to your house to teach us. Of course without paying tuition fees. As a Mangalorean I salute you sir for the service you rendered.

They were so simple and easy to understand. With the help of you written books I have taught few of my juniors the Accounts. Truly 1970s was the golden period of St. Aloysius College. I was in Science batch from 1972 to 1977.

B.S. Raman was the head of the department in commerce section.A well disciplined and devoted man dedicated his life in teaching.He was a complete teacher.Whenever it was his class the classroom would go to pin drop silence.Such was discipline.The greatness of this professor he even used to call the average students to his chamber and give them special attention.One of the great teacher I had seen in my life.May his soul rest in peace.You will live in our heart .

Very sad day indeed. Great soul. Very strict professor and very kind hearted. Hardly he used to take leave and we owe our accounting knowledge to this great man. His books in accountancy are simple and easy to understand and our favourites during our college times. Lucky to be his student in the year 1992-93 where he taught me accounts and costing. May his soul rest in peace.

Mr.B.S.Raman, Professor in St.Aloysius college was not only a disciplinarian but very strict discipline d one. He was the best professor. May his soul rest in peace.

Prof BS Raman, it is a huge loss for all. I have studied at St Aloysius and have had the textbooks written by you. They were so simple & easy to understand. I would find it so helpful and would always wonder who is this Professor BS Raman! Today for the first time I got to see your picture. You indeed are in the paradise with the angels. People who know you, will miss you dearly.
Heartfelt sympathies to all his ex students, colleagues, family and all his near and dear one's.
Adieu Professor. You have lived a true example for all of us. Thank you for being a human who showed us to use our talents in the right way.
