Bengaluru: St Joseph’s College of Law welcomes students with 6-day orientation programme

Bengaluru, Jul 29: Building on last year’s success, St Joseph College of Law (SJCL) repeated history by organising a 6-day orientation programme for the 300 newly admitted law students from July 23 to 28. The major objective of the programme was to make the parents and students aware of the academic aspects of the course, rules and regulations of the college and ensuring parental participation in monitoring the performance and progress of the students.

The programme was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the director Fr Swebert D Silva, principal Dr Pratima Prabhakar, vice-principal Fr Praveen Hrudayaraj and students followed by a prayer service. The gathering was presented with a video which gave a very comprehensive idea about the college along with the highlights of staff and students achievements.

Fr Swebert D Silva, director, SJCL, welcomed and congratulated students for becoming a part of Josephite family. He gave a brief idea about Jesuit Philosophy of Education followed by the introduction of faculty and management. Dr Pratima Prabhakar, principal, SJCL, addressed the gathering by providing them with a gist of the academic year. She also encouraged students to participate in curricular as well as co-curricular activities.

The students were introduced to plentiful of accomplished and prolific speakers such as Prof V B Coutinho (vice chancellor, Garden City University), Dr Ali Khwaja (chairman, Banjara Academy), Justice Santosh Hegde (former judge of Supreme Court), Prof Mallar (NLSLU), Rahul Singh (NLSLU), Prashanth (partner, J Sagar Associates), Dr Sarasu Esther Thomas (NLSLU),Aditya Sondhi (additional advocate general), Vineeth Krishna and team (Constitutional & Civic Citizenship Centre for Law and Policy Research) who enlightened the audience about various topics like Aspects of Justice and the Legal Profession, Women and the Law, What is ‘Unique’ about Constitution of India, Falling Social Values and its Consequences and others. The students energetically clarified their doubts by participating in question and answer sessions. There was also a high- Spirited ice-breaking session which geared up the students for the academic year and made this blissful journey to remember.

    For news law students, orientation program is really like a foundation and it is will better introspection for them, why they chose to become law professionals.
    After 6 day orientation, they will go for academic curriculum and project jobs relating to law. For all, the orientation program will help them to build their career. Jesuits thinking is very unique. Good job by SSt Joseph’s College of Law and we wish College and students, all the best.

    It is good to see that Father Swebert is continuing the good work in the field of education. He indeed did a good job in Mangalore as The Principal of St. Aloysius College and now is making attempts to continue his mission in Bangalore in the field of education directing his attention to !LAW!

    The Jesuit fathers are known for their dedication and selfless service and it good to see that they are continuing the good work commenced by The Jesuit Fathers of sacred memory ever since the nine jesuits from italy landed on the Idgah Hill in 1880.
