Honnavar, Oct 10: The district photo journalists’ association on Wednesday October 8, held a trek to Apsarakonda falls, in Kelaginoor village, about six kms from Honnavar town on National Highway 17.  The picturesque falls can be accessed by a trek of two kms through treacherous terrain.  The branch of Sri Ramachandrapura Math is located near the falls.

The mineral rich water gushing from a height of 50 ft, is a real visual treat. Although, the water seems muddy at the foot of the waterfall, it’s crystal clear when it flows down the slope and the sediments settle down.

The gorge seem is rich in iron ore deposits and this is visible to visitors. If the mining barons realize the potential of these minerals, Apsarakonda might soon turn to rubble.  Therefore, the pristine falls should be developed as a tourist spot as it has the potential to attract local and national tourists. Yet another charm of the place is the breathtaking view of the Arabian Sea that is accessible if you trek another kilometer.
