Mangaluru, Jul 30: Police are intensely searching for Abhijith Dey (22), a native of West Bengal, who had come to the city on the pretext of getting admitted to a college a Manipal and went missing mysteriously near Kulur in the city on Friday, Jul 27. His father Devkumar Dey and family members are in the city and trying to locate him along with the police.

Abhijith Dey and his father had arrived to Mangaluru by flight on Friday, July 27. They hired a taxi from the Bajpe international airport in order to reach Manipal. On the way, the taxi was stopped at Kulur for a tea break. After having tea when Devkumar Dey, father of missing Abhijith, paid the bill and came out of the hotel, his son had vanished from the scene.

Mobile phone went in switched off mode

When Devkumar Dey called his son on his mobile immediately after coming out of the hotel, as he could not see him, his son's mobile went on switch off mode. He took the help of locals and tried to search for his son. After searching for quite some time, he filed a missing person complaint in Kavoor police station.

Devkumar Dey, father of missing Abhijith told the police that a call had come on his son's mobile when they were in the taxi and moving towards Kulur. His son's face appeared frightened when he was speaking over the phone. There is a suspicion that Abhijith might have been escorted by someone. His father has also said that Abhijith used to play online games.

Devkumar Dey told the police that Abhijith had told him that he has to get admitted to Manipal engineering college and that is why he asked Devkumar to accompany him. However, as per the sources the admission is already closed in Manipal engineering college. It is suspected that Abhijith might have lied to his father.

Laptop still working

Police are searching for Abhijith since the past three days but could not find him so far. However, the police have noticed that the laptop which he has with him was accessed to log in online from internet access. There is a possibility that he may be taking shelter in places like railway station, bus stand or malls, where free Wi-Fi facility is available. So the police are on the lookout for him in these places plus elsewhere also.

"Abhijith is a brilliant student. His conduct and character were good. His behaviour never gave us any opportunity to suspect anything untoward. There is a possibility that he might have come under pressure of someone and may be facing danger now," said, parents of the missing student.
