Bengaluru, Jul 30: After Pink autos, Bengaluru mayor R Sampath Raj is contemplating on introducing pink buses for the benefit of women passengers.
The suggestion came up in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) special council meeting with the BMTC officials on July 28.
Senior BMTC official Channabasappa suggested that women drivers should be encouraged to join the BMTC. He spoke on giving interested applicants free driving lessons, as there are not many woman bus drivers in the city.
Meanwhile, the Mayor said that the pink buses are for only women passengers in the city and is not necessary that it has only women drivers and conductors. BMTC had earlier launched pink seats in buses, which were meant for women.
A resolution was passed by the council asking BMTC to introduce more feeder buses in all metro stations. Also, the issue of BMTC bus stands not paying advertisement tax for the ad revenue generated was raised.
The Mayor said he will request 24*7 metro services from Bengaluru Metropolitan Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). However, BMRCL’s chief PRO UA Vasanth Rao did not comment on the request.
