Udupi: Nurse Hazel's mysterious death in Saudi - judge orders post-mortem examination

Udupi, Aug 1: In connection with the suspicious and sudden demise of Hazel from Shirva here, who was working as nurse in Al Miqua government hospital at Saudi Arabia, at her hospital quarters, the police filed preliminary report in the court there. The judge, on Tuesday July 31, ordered for the post-mortem examination of her mortal remains. The judge will issue final order only after the post-mortem report is presented to the court.

Once the case reaches logical conclusion, assets owned by Hazel, financial settlement etc would be calculated and the mortal remains along with copy of the judgement, investigation report etc would be dispatched to Shirva, it is learnt.

In Saudi Arabia, offices are closed for weekly off on Friday and Saturday and government offices stop functioning by Thursday afternoon. Therefore, post-mortem examination, preparation of report thereof, probe etc can take place from Sunday onwards as only Wednesday is left now for work after the court passed the order. After the report is received, it needs to be presented to the judge who has to scrutinize it and deliver his orders.

MLA Lalaji R Mendon visited the house of Hazel at Shirva on Tuesday and pacified the family members. He promised to put in efforts to make sure that her mortal remains reach her native place at the earliest.

    Something is not alright here. Why is Saudi trying to buy so much time for an action that takes just one day. Needs a second post mortem on arrival to India.

    In the middle east, death under mysterious circumstances, the concerned department takes it very seriously. For them, every life is very important irrespective of nationality. The laws are very strict in Saudi Arabia.

    Hazel's death is under mysterious circumstances. They will find out the real cause of her death. No emotions attached to it. After all one life is lost at the prime age.

    And the reputation of Saudi Arabia too, which is at stake. No wonder that even though the remains will come late, yet it will definitely come ONLY after all the STATUTORY COMPLIANCES are met. There will be absolutely no need of doing a second post mortem or something like that when the remains reaches Indian soil.

    Unlike India, there is no chaltha hai, chalatha hai mentality existing in Saudi Arabia - leave aside dreaming of it, even trying it that way for that matter across all the Gulf Cooperation Council is next to impossible.

    Mind you, these authorities will zero down to the minutest of details to find out everything. Nothing goes amiss. Unless they are satisfied and thoroughly convinced, the remains can NEVER EVER reach you, even if you have excellent contacts through the Ambassador or the highest authority in the political circles. That's what Gulf teaches every single expatriate here and exhorts the same procedures to be applied back in our home town too.

    That's the rule and they abide by it. We have to have the patience.
