Mangaluru, Aug 3: A woman pushed her five-year-old daughter into a well before jumping into it herself. This incident happened at Mulky Gerukatte Nishibagh on Thursday August 2.
Those who lost their lives in this incident were Sujatha (48), wife of Sudhakar, residing near Gerukatte junior college in Mulky, and her daughter, Krithika (5).
Sudhakar is said to be employed with State Bank of India, Karnad branch. The well into which Sujatha jumped is located by the side of a new house Sudhakar has been constructing next to his current house, it is said.
Sudhakar reportedly left for work at 9 am. Sujatha and her daughter were at home till 9.30 am after which they suddenly disappeared. Some reports said that there are witnesses who saw her walking towards the family's under-construction house nearby. As the duo did not return even after considerable time, the other family members went to check what had happened, and found their bodies inside a well.
Krithika was an upper KG student of CSI School near Karnad. It is learnt that Sujatha was suffering from ill health since the last some years. Sujatha's parents told the police that they have doubts about Sujatha's suicide. They alleged that Sudhakar and his family members used to inflict mental torture on Sujatha, and thus instigated her to end her life. Actual reason for this suicide is not yet known.
Mulky police inspector, Anantha Padmanabha, visited the spot and registered case of unnatural deaths. Other family members said they did not hear the sound of the woman jumping into well as grinder and television were on.
Mulky town panchayat members, Puthu Bava and Purushotham as well as Meenakshi Bangera rushed to the spot and helped in bringing out the mortal remains from the well.
