Bengaluru: Income tax evasion case - minister Shivakumar and four others get bail

Bengaluru, Aug 3: In a case registered against them, based on the allegation of providing false information to income tax department, state minister for water resources D K Shivakumar and four others were granted conditional interim bail by the court of economic offences here on Thursday August 2.

The court also granted bail to Sachin Narayan, Sunil Kumar Sharma, Anjaneya and Rajendra, along with Shivakumar. The accused have been directed to provide surety bonds of Rs 50,000. The hearing in the case has been posted to September 20.

Minister Shivakumar is facing case under sections 277, 278, 193, 199 and 120(B) of Income tax. Judge of the court Justice M S Alva conducted the proceedings. The court had earlier served summons for the personal appearance of Shivakumar, and four others in the court on Thursday. Except Sunil Narayan, the other four had appeared in the court. The high court has stayed hearing by special economic offences court into charges levelled against Sachin Narayan.

The case relates to recovery of Rs 8.59 crore during the raid on the residences of Shivakumar and his close ones last year.

Shivakumar, who came out of the court premises after the court ordered granting of interim bail, held consultation with his lawyers. To those waiting for him, he just said that he had attended the court, duly respecting the orders of the court, before going away.

    Yes.... He could not run away to Antigua because Choksi lawyer gave statement that Choksi had close association with Congress in press report.... Ha ha .... Now he should try some other place where there is no Congress link these FINANCIAL criminals .... Nirav modi or Mallya could help him out...
