Kundapur, Aug 4: Forest officials, under the guidance of Forest Officer Sharath, in a three-day long operation, trapped a leopard which was making its appearance every now and then during the last six months in Kundapur.
The three year old male leopard was trapped in the cage kept at plot in Tolar near Maladi Nandikeshwara temple on Saturday, August 4.
It is said that the leopard was spotted by several people here. However, other locals did not believe them. Therefore, some people complained to forest officials. A goat was tied in a cage under directions from Sharath and kept near Nandikeshwara temple. But the leopard did not enter the cage. Finally, a dog was tied instead of the goat. The leopard was trapped late in the night. People saw the animal trapped on Saturday morning.
Locals gathered to see the leopard soon after the news spread. Kuvempu School and Seva Sangama students were allowed to see it. The animal was taken to Mookambika sanctuary later where it was released.
