Bengaluru, Aug 7: After Congress and JD(S) opted to have new state unit presidents, discussions on having a new state president for the party is being discussed in BJP circles. There is information that national president of the party, Amit Shah, wants the post of the state president of the party to be given to a young person so that he can give added impetus to the party organizational work.
At the same time, it is learnt that the state leaders of the party are of the opinion that it would be proper for Yeddyurappa to continue as the party's state unit president till local bodies’ election and Lok Sabha election are held.
Present state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa
When Yeddyurappa became the leader of the opposition in the assembly, many had guessed that the responsibility of BJP state president would be entrusted to someone else. Even caste calculations were made and there were discussions about giving the post to either Vokkaliga or Dalit community. Names of Arvind Limbavali, C T Ravi, and Govind Karjol were in circulation. Even the name of Dakshina Kannada MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, was doing the rounds.
There is also a notion that changing the state president of the party all of a sudden may turn the ire of the Lingayat community towards BJP. Therefore, many have expressed the view that it would be advisable to have Yeddyurappa as state BJP president till Lok Sabha election is held.
In an interesting development, Yeddyurappa all of a sudden rushed to New Delhi on Monday. He was in a programme at Nanjangud from where he went to New Delhi. Party sources said he was summoned to Delhi to discuss current political situation and urban local bodies’ election. On Tuesday, Yeddyurappa is expected to meet the union ministers to discuss problems faced by areca nut growers. He may also meet the Prime Minister, sources added.
