New Delhi: Karnataka CM Yeddyurappa Blames Christian Groups for Violence

Rediff

New Delhi, Oct 13: With his government facing flak over recent attacks against churches, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Monday blamed certain Christain organisations for flaring up "disharmony and social tension" in the state.

"While Christians and Hindus have co-existed peacefully in the state, there have been unconstitutional and illegal efforts by some Christian organisations such as New Life to forcibly convert or to induce conversion to Christianity," he said, addressing National Integration Council meeting in Delhi.

"Efforts of such organisation include publishing booklets like Satya Darshini in which Hindu gods and goddesses were denigrated. Our Constitution provides for freedom of religion, but does not permit forcible or induced conversion," he said.

He also criticised some Union ministers and alleged political vendetta. "It was very unfortunate that our state was targeted for political vendetta by ministers and officials of the government of India," he said.

Yeddyurappa stressed that there was no need to send Central advisories or rush a team to Karnataka in the aftermath of attacks on minorities.

"There have been serious communal and terrorists activities in other states such as Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Tripura, Delhi and Andhra Pradesh. The Union government was not so active in sending advisory notes, at times touted as notices (under Article 355) to the states," he added.

Mr. Chief Minister, You better watch what is the world is saying about the events that are happening in Karnataka and Orissa. It is all because the BJP has supported the anti Social groups. Please for heaven's sake try to stop these vandalizations and then don't think that Christians will do any harm to the society.

For once put out of your mind the thought that Christians are against the others. Christians are the most well behaved citizens of India. They contribute to the process of building the nation far better than any others.

Mangaloreans need to ask themselves.Even if there are mass conversions or involvement of some people in terrorism, are fundamentalist groups like Bajrang Dal and VHP answer to them? ..I feel no. Would Like to quote a Line from Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's song in Gurus of Peace Album(Song:Chanda Surga Lakho tare) "Rishtey bade mushkilo se bante hain yahan pe dekho , Tutane ke liye hain ek hi Lamhe"(With great difficulty, relations get stronger but to break it you need only one moment)

Yeddy says there is not a single case is registered aganist the forceful conversion in the state. Who want conversion? We want development and peace. To day what I see that approved Budget is not working. This fanatic CM's budget is working where he has become an Autocrat in sanctioning money freely to the Temples commercial activities. How can he do this? This tax payers money is accountable.

This is otherway face of corruption and looting the public money for the puroses of carrying out terrorist activities aganist the mionorities. He may appeal in folded hands on every occasion, but he cannot fool for ever. Since every reaction there is a opposite reaction and end is not for away. Who ever reaps good shall be blessed with showers of blessing from the heaven or else it is other wise. The same boken hand of Jesus shall show a way for him.

I think all concerned Christians and Hindus should cool down and try to find out the real truth. As far as I know, this has never happened in South Kanara District in the past. I have been living in Abu Dhabi for the past 26 years among all religions and I have interacted with them on various religious issues.

I know Christians from my first standard days and I can vouch for them that they will never venture into violence nor forceful conversion. Yes, I agree that a small percentage of Christians may be clandenstinely trying to convert some vulnerable people in to Christianity but they will do it in a very peaceful manner and will never force an individual to convert.

I will never agree to this theory of forceful conversion. In fact, one of my own relatives who was staying with me had converted to Christianity through such an influence by people known to me. I dont think it's sin. Ultimately, it's not a big issue whether you are Hindu, Christian, Muslim or Sikh. Religion is not so important the way people are making it out to be.

No religion or their Gods had any answer to save a two year old child fell into a hole and died just a few days ago. I can give hundreds of such examples where different religious Gods existence can be questioned. We blindly believe in something and are ready to kill each other without knowing the mystery of God yet.

God may be there but I am hundred percent sure He will not create different religions so that people fight each other and die ! Poeple must wake up from their sleep and ignorance. I still have a feeling that whatever has happened in Mangalore is the handiwork of some unscrupulous or anti-social element who should be caught and punished severely to avoid any future recurrence. Let's all live peacefully without hurting others.

Sometime I wonder how people have got time to indulge in such activities. I always ponder as to what kind of people are they who dare to attack places of worship - if they really believe in any religion !

I think this is the time a political leader come out in support of Hindu's. Unlike other cases where sudo politicians were instead of condemning the illegal activities of Christians and Muslims had come out in support of them to get the vote bank of Cristians and Muslims.

Where we never found even a single political leader has come out to sympathise the problems facing by the Hindu's. I strongly applause Mr Yadiyurappa for his solidarity towards hindu's.

Mr. Ashok without knowing what is the New Life Group donor comment about them. Till now the Chief Minister is not able to identify the culprit of the book publisher Satya Darshini inspire of the complete state machinery is under him. Shame on him.

Even after one month he is just putting the blame of New Life. They are not violent group but in group they are praying. In their group none of them are allowed to drink alcohol or smoking. I don’t find any mistake as it is imaginarily put on a smaller group who cannot defend themselves.

If New Life Group has published this book Satya Darshini then they will be wiped out from Karnataka as they have no right to talk about other religion. But if they are innocent they will spread like sand of the ocean in everywhere. Always truth prevails over evil lie.

With the elections close around the corner, the BJP is engineering hatred by directing its afiliates to commit mass crimes against minorities in a bid to garner majority hindu vote. They know with the success of the Manmohan Singh government in the nuclear deal and controlling Inflation while the rest of the world is facing the heat from economic meltdown, the BJP is in panic mode! So they resort to the best thing they know, spreading of hatred, violence and dividing this nation along religious lines.

But hindu religion does not stand for hatred, violence, rape and division. Its a religion that has taught the world about, peace, tolerance, harmony and co-existence.The BJP must clean the skeletons in its party and practice meaningful equality. One contitution and one Law for all Indians.

I do partially agree with the CM. Simply because he must be making his comments based on factual evidences provided by government agencies, unlike many of us hover around based on just news which can be later corrected!! Having said that, it’s not necessary that I am a supporter of BJP and its rules! Perhaps it could be?!

Finally, What Mangalore Christians and Mangalore Christians living abroad gained by opposing the act to its extreme! Probably the only gain is that many Hindus like me who really do not care about religion must have seriously looking at the way our small city was brought attention world wide!! Which certainly, deserved cities wouldn’t have got! I am sure all of you should be thinking about the outcome and benefits by doing it! Again by saying, it doesn’t mean I support what happened to churches in Mangalore. Every one should get punished but think, being a minority if you react to this latitude then what if tomorrow some majority oppose it as the way you did it!!

So better we think about it now before it's too late.

Yuddi seems karnataka's Bush in making. False claims to Iraq war, here the conversion claims against christians, US nationalist supported Bush, here Indian nationalist support Yuddi. Karma will eventually speak, today normal american's lost their homes, Rich got richer, Corrupt (Dick Cheny) seems to rule, What for us kannadiaga's? Mining lobby even changing karnataka's boundary's, corruption index starts with Karnataka, one need's to wait and watch. Being nationalist is not a sin or crime, but being blinded to truth is both sin and crime.

On Aug 15th each year, every church hosts flag with great respect, do that happen any other religious instituties?

Ahimsa is the corner stone of Spiritual life and it should extend to all living things - not only humans. Atleast, one should work towards that goal. So,irrespective of any provocation, violence should be condemned. At the same time, if somebody has a belief that changing the religion changes a person, please also find out what is happening in Darfur in Sudan, Somalia,Lebanon etc and what happened in Kenya,Congo,Rwanda etc. Find out why Natives of various continents have almost become extinct.

Dear Readers: Let us all know clearly what these leaders want to do. During the recent national integration meeting called by PM for all leaders, Modi, Yeddiurappa and Naveen Patnaik vehemently stood by each other. They not only attacked Christians but also fully supported and praised bhajrang dal, calling them as nationals.

Inspite of all condemnation and warnings, their stand is still the same. This is proved by their actions. They will continue with these activities from time to time. Let us all try and understand how dangerous it is for us all.

yeddy, please read history. India was even ruled by greeks who were pagons. so dont bring the religious politics. Be a sucular man religion and politics does not go hand in hand if it is a secular state. remember the devided country was united by Britishers who gave the whole backbone of education (enlightenment) and infrastucture of roads and railways and a good Union Govt. passed on to all of us through non voilence not by fighting with guns and bombs.

Believe in christ principles love thy neighbour thy yourself. whoever the neighbour whether rich poor or a lepper. then you are good man in front of God. Remember you cannot succeed in a elite state where people of all religions are there to fight for their rights.

When party forms a govt, the govt has to function apolitically and protect the interests of all alike. here, the chief minister is pointing his fingers to others to tell he is right. Dear Mr. Chief minister, do not point the fingers to others, point it to yourself and tell "I am protecting all equally" then see that your police force acts as one. Tell the police what their duty is! before you came - there was nothing of the sort.

It is not surprising that the CM blames Christians, it is the policy of Sangh Parivar that when they are caught red handed they try to shift the blame on minorities whether christian or Muslims. But I want to ask him is there is any law & order machinery in Karnataka? If New life group is converting people, they should be arrested and punished as per the law of the land. Then who vandalised the churches/holy places? christians? The CM is answerable to people.

Frankly we never looked at it from that angle. Those who rape nuns, burn churches, kill priests, should be given due credit for their exemplary service. And those who protest this should be locked up and put in jail. The earlier the better. We have to set an example of how peace loving people we are. I even feel every community should have its version of the BJP and we will truly be an exemplary example to secularism.

The CM Yeddyurappa is seriously accusing a particular section of the society indulging in forceful conversion through unconstitutional and illegal means. A simple question to our beloved CM 1.what is his government doing to stop this unconstitutional and illegal forceful conversions? 2. Whether the state police and district administration is sleeping when these things are happening at their jurisdictions? How many FIR's Police has received till this date by the affected? 3. Does any organisation has the right to take the law into their own hands? The government should act instead of making just statements.

Sending Central advisories or rush a team to Karnataka . Why dont you send a team to Kashmir and see what is the fate of HINDUS . This is India and whatever they call it may be secular and what not , firstly this is A HINDU COUNTRY and till date allthe religions are respected even though Hindus are in majority. But watch Kashmir where Hindus are in minority and they are killed like animals since ages by the majority.

I think the time will come when the majority of this country will do the same if the Hindu minorities are not protected in Kashmir then no one has the right to speak about the minority and majority view points. Let the fate of this country decide.

Yeddyurappa has taken a stance, a strong one at that. He has clearly pointed fingers at certain Christian organizations for causing these problems. In my opinion I think he is right. The unfortunate issue is that the mainstream Roman Catholics got affected, which is very unfortunate. The harmony that prevailed in this region can be attributed to the Roman Catholics and not the other groups that have crept in.

This is a message for the Mangalorean Christians not to support or side any of these groups , same as the hindus not to support the hardliners such as BD and VHP. We will never eradicated these people by we need to contain them.

The "new life" and "born again" are causing a lot of havoc in several hindu as well as christian families. In the name of religion they are breaking up the family fabric. I am not sure they will be able to affect the entire society, but incidents that occurred a few weeks back will keep flaring up.

Dear MR:YEDDYURAPPA (CM),i think your state ment dont make any sense.Being a CM you should know things must follow through law.if new life IS converting, then things must go officially,as per law,& action must be taken who is the reason behind.you have no any writes to enter relogious places & hurt peoples feelings & destroy church materials & harm innocent people.in history did ever you heard, RC christians INTERFFERED IN HINDU RELIGION & HARMED ANY ONE feelings..?

We christians & hindu brothers were friendly like brotherly way living, apart from WE CHRISTIANS SERVERVED HINDu`S gone out of the way to educate them & maximum supported honestly in all aspects which even those facilities being not given christians from our own institutions.what we call for this...? GIFT or POLITICS..?????? india is a secular country. do you think there is no law for these gundas who is valueless working for may be little money to create missunderstandings...?but who is behind...?god bless you.

Conversion by inducement or forcible conversion is like taking a horse to the river bank and making it to drink water. Can anybody force the horse to drink water or anybody has succeeded it. How come in Karnataka Christian population has dwindled from 2.7% to 2.1%? Is it the effect of forceful conversion? How come such micro minority community can force others to change religion?

Even after one month of the desecration of the churches the Chief Minister has not able to trace the publisher of the book Satya Dashing which he says is the cause of disturbance in Coastal Mangalore. How did he manage to get the copy of this book? Anybody has the right to take law in their own hands? Instead of condemning the vandalism happened to the church, he has directly accusing the Christians which are not right. Mr. CM in your approach you should stand for justice & truth no matter what it may cost you.
