Mangalore: Powerful Lobbyists Succeed; DC’s Transfer Cancelled

Mangalore, Oct 14: The transfer order issued for M Maheshwar Rao, deputy commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada (DK), has been cancelled. Rao was one of the 25 IAS officers, whom the state government had recently transferred. 

But a strong lobby behind Rao has been successful in keeping him back. Ponnuraj, who is presently posted in Bangalore, was supposed to come to the district. He gained popularity in Udupi district during his tenure as DC, because of his straightforward attitude and clear vision about development.

Some powerful elements in the district, fearing Ponnuraj’s straightforwardness have used their political prowess to retain Rao sources informed. People were looking forward to a dynamic DC as several developmental projects are pending in and around the city. 

Ponnuraj was projected as the right officer for these. Even district-in-charge minister Krishna Palemar had expressed his willingness to bring in Ponnuraj as the DC for the district.

    In banking parlance, there are those loans if they are stuck or if they are not repaid over a long period of time, they are termed as NPA(Non Performing Assets). In some balance sheets, even human value is considered and they are classified as Human Assets. May be we can call a vote of the day- to which category Mr.Maheshwara Rao belongs?

    Where is the democracy in India. It is AUTOCRACY in the name of Democracy. Politicians and high profile persons can do any thing in our Country. Hats of to the person who got the transferred cancelled. In fact he should be made the Chief Minister, because it is he who is driving back seat.

    Mangalore deserves a better IAS officer. Non performers should be sent to a rural posting and upon improvement should be upgraded. Mangalore sould be provided with educated, polished and dynamic DC to match the reputation of this intelligent district.

    Is there a shortage of well educated IAS officers? Along with IAS passing, candidate should be taught about integrity and dignity. Mangalore is getting a raw deal due to our own politicians for the gain of their ideology .

    Indian Government consists of three divisions - Legislative, Admnistration and Judiciary. Each division should function independently and there should be checks and balances. What I see is that the Legislative body is dominating the Administrative body.

    Maheshwar Rao is acting like V.S.Acharya's Peon. He should keep his dignity. The Legislatures should realize that their job is to pass the legislation and Administration is responsible for enforcing the law. Legislative body should not interfere with Administrative or Judiciary. Maheshwar Rao should act like IAS officer - not like a Peon of political figures.

    Maheshwar Rao is a puppet of the ruling party in the State. He is the root cause for the recent communal disturbance in DK. It is because of his partisan behaviour the communal disturbances in Mangalore went out of hand.

    This partisan DC is not good for Mangaloreans and needs to be transfered immediately out of DK so that Mangloreans can live in peace and harmony.

    Mr. Bhat. Those day gone, whereby such use will be made for retention of DC to fulfill his obligations boy. You are in 21 Centuary, grow up and move on. There will be hand-over, and strong committee is their to support new DC. Mr. Rao will not last for ever, there is end for everything boss.

    Please don't be misled from the main issue of the DC turning a 'Nelson's Eye' to the recent progrom of the Christian community. His utterrances as also of the SP and their physical presence in the event marking "Glorious 100 days of BJP rule" stand testimony on why they need to be continued.

    Add to this, the Chief Minister 'eats conversion, drinks conversion and sleeps conversion'. Not a shred of evidence to date and, yet at the NIC meet in Delhi, the CM as a Governmental Head clubbed Terrorism & Conversion as the causes of insecurity.

    Now you can guess why the DC's transfer was cancelled & who needs him more and who is behind it.

    Dear Mr. Bhatt, I hope you are right. I don't think the commentators are narrow minded. The article clearly states that Mr. Rao is deliberately retained, hence the reaction. Let us wait and see if Mr. Rao performs as per people's requirements and not politicians.

    This is our democracy. This is the VISION of our politicians when it comes to development. Even one wants to develop the district truthfully can not do it because of our foresighted politicians.     It seems you people donot have idea of Governments workings.You start commenting on every news item appearing with out giving second thoughts - as not to be left behind others in criticism. Modification of transfer orders do take place regularly everywhere in India. I donot see any politics in retaining Mr.Rao in Mangalore.

    Lots of new projects like SEZ are coming up in and around Mangalore. Some are in preliminary stage and Mr.Rao is fully involved in all of them. Hence Govt. might have thought of retaining him to complete the unfinished tasks for our own economic development at the earliest. So CRITICS come out your narrow mind and stop finding fault with every action of Government. Had he been an embrassment to Government, his transfer order would not have modified.

    What a shame, this BJP govt. will destroy the State, they dont have the guts to face straight forward officers, and then we point finger at them, in our country even if someone wants be honest he will be crushed, HONESTY IN INDIA HAS NO PLACE, Even if an indivisual wants to be honest and god fearing he will be put out of the society,

    This all give a clear picture about how the politics happening in and around mangalore .We are just toys of Politics we play according to their will. Even though the situation of mangalore is not good, required good DC. But  it will not happen as the ruling party wants work to be done according to thier wish!
