Bantwal: Illegal trafficking - two arrested, 850 kg beef seized

Bantwal, August 9: Police on Thursday, August 9, intercepted a pickup jeep transporting beef illegally near Jakribettu and arrested two people. Also, 850 kg beef was confiscated by the police.

The arrested have been identified as Abdul Jabbar, the pickup driver and Madhwa Bambila resident Samseer.

Police on definite information intercepted the vehicle plying from Poonjalkatte to Mangaluru at Jakribettu. When they inspected the vehicle, they found beef in it. Police upon arrest and questioning driver Abdul Jabbar and Samseer came to know that meat was being transported from Beloor to Mangaluru market without valid permission or documents. A case was registered against the arrested at Bantwal town police station.

According to police sources, driver Abdul Jabbar is an accused in a similar case at Charmadi three months ago.

PSI Chandrashekar and Harish conducted the operation under the guidance of assistant police inspector Hrishikesh Sonavane Bhagavan and CPI Nagaraj. Staff Suju, Mallik and Niranjan also were part of the operation.

    The animals were slaughtered illegally hence the meat did not go through certifications. It is very risky to buy beef these days even from a licensed vendor. May be these beef runners are slaughtering sick animals.

    These people are a burden on the society, they steal poor people's livelihood , create communal tension & hatred in the society, later riots happen and innocent people from both the sides lose their lives. Muslim community should come out strongly against these people and should not remain silent. Silence will be seen as approval of their acts and promote more people to take up this job. Then lynchings will happen and many will lose their life. Let the leaders of the community issue a fatwa against these acts. We have seen fatwas against silly things like women's clothing, make up, eye brow shaping, asking people not to wish others for their festivals etc. Where is the fatwa against cattle theft & smuggling? Are they approving this?

    It seems like the slaughter houses in twin districts are very less compared to the demand of meat and consumption. Need of the hour is to raise the no. by allocating new licenses as per population density.
    Let people eat what they want, stop stealing cattle or transporting illegally.
    These stolen cattle meat anyhow become costlier to the end user, legally running butcher places sell meat in a fair price.

    May be it was meant for export, we have to maintain our top global ranking in beef export and apart from beef, export figures of all rest of the commodities have hit the rock bottom since 2014 and that precisely is the reason why rupee is at an all time low even though oil remains under 80$ a barrel.

    Complete nonsense by these illegal merchants. The law allows licensed butcheries to sell beef (in whichever of a kind) legally. Stick to it and take a payment receipt from the butcheries and produce it if there is a random check on the way to home.

    All these things involving beef happens only because of illegal cow slaughter activities and nothing to do with Muslims, Christians or Hindus,

    Our Bantwal police intercepted beef where as Delhi police could not intercept chota escaping having looted 13,000 crores and 6 Passports. Bantwal police need to be promoted to work in Delhi where ministers approve beef export.

    They didn't bring clear state government policy on this business... I think they should legalise more business using state laws and support farmers to raise buffaloes for this business input and it will definitely give more jobs and support farmers too...
