Bantwal, August 9: Police on Thursday, August 9, intercepted a pickup jeep transporting beef illegally near Jakribettu and arrested two people. Also, 850 kg beef was confiscated by the police.
The arrested have been identified as Abdul Jabbar, the pickup driver and Madhwa Bambila resident Samseer.
Police on definite information intercepted the vehicle plying from Poonjalkatte to Mangaluru at Jakribettu. When they inspected the vehicle, they found beef in it. Police upon arrest and questioning driver Abdul Jabbar and Samseer came to know that meat was being transported from Beloor to Mangaluru market without valid permission or documents. A case was registered against the arrested at Bantwal town police station.
According to police sources, driver Abdul Jabbar is an accused in a similar case at Charmadi three months ago.
PSI Chandrashekar and Harish conducted the operation under the guidance of assistant police inspector Hrishikesh Sonavane Bhagavan and CPI Nagaraj. Staff Suju, Mallik and Niranjan also were part of the operation.
