Ottawa, Oct 15: Members of the Manglorean Catholic Association of Ottawa (MCAO) celebrated the feast of Nativity (Monthi Fest) belatedly on Saturday October 11, 2008 at St Theresa’s Church downtown Ottawa, Canada’s Capital city.
The celebration started with honouring Mother Mary with fresh flowers along with traditional hymns ‘Sokkod Sangata Melleam’ and ‘Moreak Hogollsiyam.’ Later, new harvest which was brought all the way from Mangalore was blessed by Fr Vincent Pereira followed by the Eucharist celebration. Members from all over the Ottawa and surrounding place also gathered at the venue in full festive spirit – a home away from home.
After the mass, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Association was held where members discussed important issues of concern. A cultural show followed, showcasing the talents of young ones and some not so young ones. The gathering was treated to a sumptuous Mangalorean vegetarian and non-vegetarian dinner. The gathering wrapped up the day’s events with an enjoyable games and singing.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Vincent Pereira (founder of MCAO) said “the association has been blessed all along with dedicated and selfless members who have given their valuable contribution in terms of their time and resources to the steady growth of the organization.”
The festival was organized by Richard and Joseph Pinto under the able guidance of convener Nevil DeCunha.
The Association has also invited all the new-comers and those who have not enlisted themselves in the Association to enroll their name and phone numbers by contacting at ivandein@yahoo.com
