Mangaluru police install LED display boards for smooth flow of traffic

Mangaluru, Aug 16: Mangaluru traffic police have installed new LED display boards at KPT, Nanthoor and near Jyothi circle consisting real time information.

The text messages alerting the drivers and commuters are displayed on the board. Apart from it, it also displays the time and kilometres to reach the other destinations.

Messages such as drive safe, don’t drink and drive, don’t use mobile while driving, be safe and wear seat belts while driving, notification to alert the driver are also displayed in the LED board. It also shows the live traffic congestion of other areas of Mangalore other than weather report, wind speed and many more.



Even for the tourists, the display board helps as it shows distance and history of temples and other popular destinations in Mangaluru.

Speaking to daijiworld.com, traffic ACP Manjunath Shetty said,"We have introduced three LED display boards at Nanthoor, KPT and Jyothi which are running on trial basis. If it is successful, we will implement it in full fledged manner. As of now there is no other proposal to put up these LED boards in other areas.”

He further said, “This board is mainly put up to create traffic awareness and educate people about traffic. Even we can see directions for other places, in case if there is road deviation, commuters can see the notification in the display board. It shows the live traffic congestion of other areas too.”

    Good to have this display board but my suggestion is it better showing some health and safety awareness drive carefully when reaching junctions school and hospital also rules for pedestrians and motorcycle rides as well it can help all road users and public’s

    Instead of spending money on these boards, why cant they do something for the roads in these areas. Roads are pathetic and none of the concerned authorities are bothered. Is the road patch work is done only when there is a visit of VIPs, ministers. So only they need good roads and not the taxpayers.

    I don't understand, how the people can drive like this in this city? there is no control at all in the traffic system. evern the traffic police are lacking experience. they are not capable to stop the vehicles behind the entry point of each road. and our drivers are also too obsessive to penetrate in to the junction and creat congestion. the drivers in mangalore (locals as well as visitors) are creating inconvenience at the junctions.
    please seeeeeeee the traffic beauty at Bendorewell junction. busses are stopping on pedestrian crossing only. no pathway to cross the road. KSRTC drivers either from karnataka or kerala have no sense at all. two wheelers are always blind. they do not know that they should stop the vehicle when someone is there on the pedestrian crossing, instead, they threaten the pedestrians by increasing the speed and passing in close by in inches of gap.
    these informative boards are NO USE IN MANGALORE CITY CORPORATION LIMITS. better to place in from of Government offices, traffic stations and railways stns. there people may read. placing on the junction is an idiotic idea. who will look into it on the junction??????? will they control the drive or read?????

    Maybe they should put cameras that zoom on the potholes and show on screen. That'll help drivers avoid them! Have you driven around recently? Then you need to be paid by the govt for taking your car out on these roads. How dare they give us such roads when we pay road tax?? How dare they take us for granted... Look at the roads around Pumpwell, Nantoor circle etc. So bad in the rains. What these people make the roads of?? Why the cheap inferior work?? Whom are they trying to fool? They should allow only jeeps and ambassador cars to sell in these parts then. Don't allow luxury cars to sell here. When a person pays so many lakhs for their car they have to get a suitable road for it too. Over that they take road tax. The nerve. There are accidents and deaths happening due to potholes. A neighbour of mine died that way when her son's bike fell into a pothole. It's high time we did something.

    This is a good initiative by the MCC. However, instead of showing the traffic congestion on LED boards, why not fix the traffic lights to reduce congestion in the first place? Traffic lights have been installed at Nanthoor and KPT junction. They are never in use. Quick action has to be taken. Traffic jams during the peak hours are getting worse at these junctions as the days go by.

    But Most of the accidents are caused by potholes and lack of warning displays and poorly managed pedestrian ways in addition to poor civil sense of the citizens

    This is a good start. These signals should be installed at all important junctions. It is my sincere hope that this will be done in stages. It is very easy for us to criticize and find fault with the Police department. Some have come forward to help the traffic department by joining the Traffic Wardens Squad. It is preferable we critics join the squad and help the City.

    Any rule you implement in Mangalore whether it is with regard to display boards or with regard to noise pollution the traffic still in mangalore will be a nuisance. Why does Mangalore police need to install display boards when it is clearly known that during driving classes the driving license holder is taught all the rules of driving - i.e., not to use mobile while driving, not to drink and drive, follow traffic signals, don't come on wrong side and so on. You can straighten a dog's tail but you cannot straighten a mangalorean while driving.

    Badly need road repair works, strictly and warning and penalty for parking in no parking areas, distance display boards, and signs, no need these hifi LED display while watching these there may be some accidents.

    First give awareness programme to traffic constables then control the city and service buses . I think spending this much money on LED board is foolishness.

    I have not seen a single policeman on the traffic signal or the road in the middle east or European countries. The traffic moves as per the directions and signals and there is no manning. This mentality of ours of keeping traffic police at junctions should stop. To do this our peoples mentality of driving should change. Even China is far better than us .I have visited Bejing and at the peak hours also people maintain discipline and follow the signals. Our idea of talking about awareness to traffic police shows our mentality of improving others than improve ourselves. Any new initiative including the traffic cameras to fine the erring people should be appreciated. The people making the fault should be made to stand in the traffic police post for one day to understand the difficulties and environmental troubles that the police are undergoing. Recently in Dubai people who were over speeding were jailed and the punishment was to clean the road for 1 hour everyday and return back to jail. Same thing happened in Oman when two people did drifting
