Bengaluru: Without any notice, BBMP demolishes 400 houses overnight

Bengaluru, Aug 20: In an overnight operation, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) demolished 400 tin-roofed houses at Kariyammana Agrahara near Bellandur saying that it violated the buffer zone regulations.

As many as 1,500 people lost roofs over their heads in the operation carried out by BBMP authorities on August 18. The families residing in the houses said that they were not issued any notice before he demolition.

People from Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal were living in the houses since eight years.

    Demolition is fully legal; otherwise these illegals may claim squatters' rights! A few weeks after the rains would have been a responsible wait, as well as humanitarian.

    Good Job BBMP. But this was easy as you were flexing your muscles against the illegal yet poor lot.
    How about now act against those illegal approvals given with utter disregard for norms due to which there is overconcentration of population in some areas, poor access (narrow roads, coupled with illegal structures by shops) to those huge housing colonies etc.?
