Mangaluru: Fr Muller Institutions accord grand farewell to outgoing Bishop Aloysius

Mangaluru, Aug 21: A valedictory ceremony for the outgoing bishop of Mangaluru diocese and Father Muller Charitable Institution president Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza was held at Father Muller Charitable Institution decennial memorial hall on Tuesday, August 21.

“I express gratitude for the love showered on me in the last 22 years as president of this institution. It has been 137 years since the inception of this institution. Father Muller treated leprosy patients under the banyan tree and today this place has turned out to be one of the greatest institutions which accommodate people with a motto to heal and comfort,” the bishop said.



“We should not forget the contribution made by the support staffs, administrators in making this institution grow. This institution started with a mission to heal and comfort, and today with everyone’s contribution it has grown to this stature. Because of the commitment and dedication our institution was accredited with NABH and various other honours,” he added.

Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza was felicitated for his service. Vicar general Fr Dennis Moras Prabhu was also felicitated.

Bishop-elect Dr Peter Paul Saldanha graced the occasion.  

Director of Father Muller Charitable Institution Fr Richard Coelho welcomed the gathering, administrator Fr Rudolph rendered the vote of thanks and Dr Nicole Periera compered the programme. Governing board member M P Noronha was present.

    Out of dozens of other major achievements that were successfully accomplished by Bishop Aloysius, there are two major landmarks that will always outshine in favor of the retiring Bishop, and that will be Fr. Muller's Medical College in Kankanady, as well as St. Joseph's Engineering College at Vamanjoor. Both these monumental projects will never diminish in Mangalore but will flourish ten fold as time moves along. The number of young men and women who will turn out to be the best Doctors and Engineers will bring name and fame for the Mangalore Diocese. These accomplishments cannot be forgotten but instead they need be constantly highlighted in honor of those that have struggled to make sure that they keep flourishing every step of the way.


    We still remember, many many years ago, when we were travelling from Bangalore to Mangalore, Bishop Aloysius was travelling on the same Jet Airways flight, and he whispered to us the good news that he has received the official green signal from the Government to establish a Medical College at Fr. Mullers. Since then so many milestones have been completed and several hundreds of Medical students are already practicing their Medical profession. What a fantastic achievement that has brought glory and success to Mangalore.


    Thank you, Bishop Aloysius for all your visionary insights that have brought many "success stories" to the Diocese of Mangalore.
