Mangaluru, Aug 22: “The government will take necessary steps in providing houses for those who were affected by natural calamities in Kodagu and Sullia,” said minister for urban development and housing U T Khader here on Wednesday, August 22.

Addressing media, Khader said, "After the recent torrential rain, the situation in Kodagu and Sullia is miserable. Several houses were damaged, due to which occupants were shifted to relief camps. The state government under the direction of chief minister H D Kumaraswamy will construct houses for those who lost them during the natural calamity.

"Survey will be undertaken under Madikeri commissioner Anup Kumar to find out the number of houses damaged due to incessant rains. The list will be finalised soon and houses will be provided to the victims. A survey will be conducted at Sampaje, Jodupala and Monnangeri too in this regard. Our government is with the people in this hour of crisis,” he said.

He also urged people not to take advantage of the situation. "People should not collect funds from public and thereby take advantage in the name of flood relief. If people are willing to donate for flood relief, they can donate it through the district administration,” said Khader.
