Mangaluru, Aug 23: MLC B M Farooq revealed that he has submitted a detailed memorandum to chief minister H.D Kumaraswamy for the development of Dakshina Kannada district. He also said that he will work relentlessly for the development of the district.
He was speaking to reporters at a press meet held at Circuit House on Thursday, August 23.
“Dakshina Kannada district has all the eligibilities to become a commercial hub in Karnataka. Hence I have requested the chief minister to visit the district at the soonest for a day-long discussion with local officials for preparing a blueprint of development,” he added.
Airport
“Mangaluru Airport does not have the status of international airport. As per ministry of civil aviation, another 36 acres space is needed for the airport for its runway expansion. Only after the expansion of runway, it can get the status of international airport. I brought this matter to the notice of the chief minister. He responded positively. Land acquisition is always in the hands of state government,” he informed.
Infrastructure
“We cannot depend much on ghat roads. We need a tunnel road to connect Mangaluru with Bengaluru. This matter also has been conveyed to the chief minister,” he added.
“To solve the shortage of electricity in city, government has decided to upgrade 66 KV substations to 110 KV substations,” he said.
Moral policing
“Dakshina Kannada is known as a tourism-friendly district. But the issues of moral policing and some other factors are impediments. Many IT companies are not showing interest to open their offices in the district because of moral policing. So it is my request to all political leaders and citizens of district to stop encouraging such type of practices. If the IT companies come to the district, we definitely will become second IT hub in state,” he continued.
“I am not an aspirant to be a minister. I am not a professional politician. I am a businessman. My interest in social service has made an MLC. Party leaders have given me a platform. So I will try to give my best to the society. Dakshina Kannada is my district. I will try my best for the development of the society here,” he concluded
JD(S) district president Mohammad Kunhi, leaders M.B Sadashiv, Vasanth Poojary, Rizwan and Sushil Noronha, were present.
