Mangalore, Oct 19: A ‘nada taranga’ organized as part of the silver jubilee celebrations of ‘Taranga’, weekly magazine, was inaugurated in the city on Saturday October 18.

Speaking after inaugurating the event, President of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, Dr Jayamala said that newspapers should respond to problems in society that affect the common man. This is something that Taranga has followed without fail.

Taranga has adhered to culture and values and is successfully reaching people of different classes and age groups, she added. Today, there is a decline in the quality of the Kannada film industry and a survey needs to be conducted to improve the situation, added Dr Jayamala. She requested Sandhya S Pai, the managing editor of Taranga, to conduct such a survey and asked for public support and suggestions.

‘Udayavani’ released its Diwali special edition on the occasion. Nagatihalli Chandrashekar, litterateur and film director, A Mohan Rao, general manager, Corporation Bank, and P D Deshpande, special officer, Bank of Baroda, were the chief guest.

Sandhya Pai said that people feel that learning Kannada is unnecessary and the variety of literature in the language is decreasing. She blamed the youth for a lack of interest in learning the language. T Satish U Pai, managing director, Manipal Media Network, was present on the occasion.

On behalf of the organization, K Devdas, advertising department, and Umesh Shanbhag, circulation department, honoured Nagatihalli Chandrashekar. U B Rajalakshmi, working editor, Taranga, welcomed the gathering.

Senior sub-editor Jayaram Karant proposed the vote of thanks. Manohar Prasad, bureau chief, Udayavani, and Pratibha Kuthadka, sub-editor, Taranga, compered the programme. A musical concert by Rajesh Krishna and group was also held on the occasion.
