Mangaluru: Bike accident causing youth's death - rider in judicial custody

Mangaluru, Aug 25: Relating to an incident in which a motor bike had hit a police umbrella and a youth seated on the pillion was killed on August 19, the court remanded the bike rider to 15 days judicial custody.

Gregory Pinto (25) from Ilanthila village, Beltangady taluk, was arrested in connection with this accident.

The motor bike driven by Gregory had hit a police umbrella at St Agnes Junction within the limits of Mangaluru traffic (east) police station, causing the death of the pillion rider Godwin Pais from Parladka Nujibail in Puttur.

Godwin had suffered serious injuries to his head during the accident and breathed his last at a hospital later.

A case about this incident had been registered in traffic (east) police station.

    The two wheeler drivers don't know to drive... They are suppose to drive on the left side of the road, but we always find them driving on the right side of the road... They dont give way to the cars.. they have got no idea where they are and what they are doing... Some don't have view mirrors

    It is difficult and unfair to come to conclusions. The court will determine the cause of the accident and decide on the penalty.

    We should take care while driving and riding on the pathetic roads of Mangalore. The Hampankatta area is in a very dangerous zone, some places the roads are dug and may be a real cause for accidents. What about the speed breakers all disappeared in Mangalore, forget about the zebra crossing which should have been painted before the monsoons have all vanished.

    It is high time traffic/police authorities educate two wheeler riders on safe driving.

    Every day we see at least 2-4 deaths of two wheeler riders in twin districts.

    The accident as far I know happened after 12 in the night, so the question of watching birds as you mentioned does not arise here.
