Bengaluru, Aug 26: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has instructed officials to submit suitable proposals relating to changes that may be made in the sand policy of the state so that sand mafia is kept under check, people get sand easily, and the government gets proper revenue.
Kumaraswamy, who held meeting with officials of the department and minister, took the officials to task, blaming them for letting illegal sand business to proliferate with their way of handling things.
"Legislators of all the parties have complained about non-availability of sand for works as officials have been imposing restrictions on movement of sand. Officials have been arresting small sand transporters, and allowing big operators to go scot free. Because of this, illegal sand transportation has been going on relentlessly. The officials should not bend under political pressure and submit proposals to make changes in the sand policy so that sand mafia is crushed," he instructed.
The CM said that there have been widespread complaints about the poor quality of M Sand. He also asked the officials to make suitable changes in the current system and guidelines in the act and frame new policy to see that construction stones and crushed stones are made available at reasonable prices to common people.
