Mangaluru, Aug 26: An office for the new bishop’s ordination committee was inaugurated at Rosario Cathedral on Sunday, August 26.
Oscar Fernandes, MP and former union minister inaugurated the office. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangaluru, blessed the office and declared it is open for operation. M A Gafoor, chairman, Minority Committee , J R Lobo, former MLA, Ivan D’Souza, MLC, Fr J B Crasta, coordinator of ordination event, Susheel Kumar Noronha, convenor, publicity committee , advocate M P Noronha, secretary of diocesan parish council and coordinator of the consecration ceremony, Naveen D’Souza, Sabitha Misquith, corporator, and Fr Vijay Victor, PRO, Mangaluru diocese were present.
Addressing the gathering, Oscar said, “In September, we are going to witness a historic event. The new bishop will take charge. By opening this office, the diocese is getting prepared to hold the memorable event. Thousands will gather to witness the ordination. Prior to that preparations are very essential. The new office will help various committees and responsible people to coordinate with each other. We should be thankful to our outgoing bishop Dr Aloysius for his strong leadership. We should appreciate his efforts to welcome the new bishop in a grand manner.
“Our diocese is well known for its faith. Many bishops serving all over India are basically from Mangaluru. We should be proud of this fact. Now we are getting a new bishop. It is our duty to make this event memorable,” he said.
Bishop Dr Aloysius said, “The ordination of the bishop is not only important to Christians. The entire state is looking forward to this event. Hence, we have to organise it in a very meaningful way. It is a joyful event for us. Through this event, we should glorify the almighty. By His grace only, we can hold this event without any issues. So we should take this event as service and mission given by the Lord.”
M P Noronha briefed the importance of the office and rendered the vote of thanks.
