Mangaluru, Aug 30: A youth, who was overtaken by a sense of guilt as he believed that his girl friend had ended her life by jumping into a river because of him, committed suicide. Before killing himself, he left behind a 15-page death note. This incident happened at Addur Kinnimajalu near Gurpur in the early hours on Wednesday August 29.
The man who ended his life was Diwakar (32), son of Gopal. It later transpired that the girl, who he believed was dead, is alive.
Diwakar used to live alone. A lady came to meet him frequently. On Tuesday evening, she arrived at his home and stayed for the night there. Early morning the next day, the two fought over some silly issue. Diwakar, in a fit of rage, stabbed his friend with a knife. Angered by this development, she immediately left his home.
Some young men, who were coming to Gurpur at around 5 m on Wednesday, saw blood stains on the road and conveyed information to the police. Some locals had seen a lady walking on the road in the early hours. A rumour that the lady had jumped into river Phalguni had also spread by then. The police said that this rumour also reached Diwakar. Overcome with guilt and fear, Diwakar killed himself, the police believe.
It is gathered that the lady reached her home safety with the help of some people. There is information that the deceased youth had acted in a Tulu film. Reportedly, in the death note, Diwakar mentioned that he had not committed any wrongs and that he had never done any injustice or cheated anyone.
