Puttur, Sep 1: "Reports which say that Shiradi Ghat road will have to remain closed for six months is really serious. I have already spoken to the state PWD minister on the issue. I have urged him to see that steps are taken to restore the damage and open the ghat road for traffic as early as possible," said union minister, D V Sadananda Gowda.
He was speaking to media persons after exercising his franchise for the municipal election at Haradi School here on Friday August 31.
He noted that Shiradi ghat road remained closed during the entire summer season this year for repairs and that the road had to be closed again after briefly opening it for traffic because of heavy rain. "Closure of this road for long will create communication problem between the coast and other parts of the state. Normal life of the people will be thrown out of gear. It will also have an impact on the economic condition of the state. Therefore, this road should be opened for traffic as soon as possible," he felt.
Gowda predicted that BJP will win 60 percent of the seats in the election to urban local bodies. He also exuded confidence of his party winning over 23 out of 31 seats in Puttur city municipality.
MLA Sanjeev Matandoor, BJP Mandal unit president Chanila Thimmappa Shetty, and district executive member R C Narayan Renja, were present.
