Mangaluru Sep 1: People's Association for Geriatic Empowerment (PAGE) in association with Mangalore Chemical Fertilizers (MCF) launched World Alzheimer's month here at Kadri Park on Saturday September 1.
The event was inaugurated by release of balloons.
Addressing the gathering, MRPL MD M Venkatesh said, "PAGE organisation has always been at the forefront of taking care and showing concern for those afflicted by Alzheimer's. We must take care of those suffering from Alzheimer's as it is the duty of family members to take care of them."
IGP Arun Chakravarthy said, "The initiative taken by PAGE is very much appreciable to take care of Alzheimer's patients. It is very distressing to see youngsters find it difficult to look after elders and admit them to old age homes. Elders are completely neglected by their family members. Several organisations have emerged to take care of the elderly with love and care, but unfortunately the elderly do not receive the love and care their own homes need to provide."
World Alzheimer's month will conclude on September 22 at Town Hall. During the Alzheimer's month several activities will be held like fancy dress competition, purple run, memory games, memory walk, memory testing and others.
Sessions Judge of Dakshina Kannada Kadaloor, Satyanarayana Acharya, director, MCF K Prabhakar Rao, principal SDM Law College, Dr Devraj, MLA South Vedavyas Kamath, president PAGE, Dr Olinda Pereira, vice president PAGE Dr Prabha Adhikari and others were present.
