Mangaluru, Sep 5: There are conflicting versions given by the deputy commissioners (DC) of Dakshina Kannada district and Hassan with regards to opening the Shiradi Ghat for vehicular traffic from Wednesday, September 5.
Giving clarification with regard to the opening of Shiradi Ghat for vehicular traffic, in the district development coordination and monitoring committee meeting, Rohini Sindhuri, DC of Hassan said, "Only light vehicle movement will start on the Shiradi Ghat road in Sakleshpur taluk of Hassan district from the afternoon of Wednesday, September 5. Officials of National Highway Authority of India are solely responsible if any mishap takes place,"
The ghat is being opened after the Hassan district administration received a letter saying that as per experts light vehicles can start plying on the Shiradi Ghat. As known, the ghat was closed due to multiple landslides that took place during the recent downpour and deluge.
Contrary to the statement given by Rohini Sindhuri, DC of Dakshina Kannada district, Sasikanth Senthil, said that no decision is taken with regards to opening the Shiradi Ghat for vehicles from September 5.
According to Senthil, before throwing the Shiradi Ghat open for vehicles, joint spot inspection will be done by assistant commissioners of Puttur and Sakleshpur and based on their report, the order will be issued to allow the movement of vehicles on the Shiradi Ghat.
