Mangaluru, Sep 5: Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil has passed an order allowing Shiradi Ghat road for the movement of light vehicles.
Earlier, traffic was restricted on the road due to landslides. The highway authority has now submitted a report that the spots where landslides occurred have been repaired and light vehicles can be allowed on the road. The deputy commissioner had prepared a team consisting national highway engineer, national highway authority project director and Puttur sub division officials to hold an inspection of the area and submit a report.
The deputy commissioner, based on the report, has permitted one way traffic in certain places on the Ghat section of cars, jeeps, two wheelers, tempo travellers and maxi cabs.
However, traffic of buses, lorries, tankers, containers and such other heavy vehicles is banned as Shiradi Ghat road is deemed not suitable for the movement of heavy vehicles.
