New Delhi, Oct 24: Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Friday barred Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi from meeting the students at Kanpur University.
Rahul had to attend a Dalit convention at the Indian Institute of Techonology, Kanpur, besides other events.
Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal, who represents Kanpur Lok Sabha constituency, denied that the convention had anything to do with the tussle between the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Rahul’s visit and stay at a Dalit’s house in Amethi a few months ago was termed as a political drama by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.
Earlier, a prohibitory order banned Sonia Gandhi from holding a public meeting in Lalganj, but it couldn't gag Rae Bareli MP and the Congress chief.
Angry Sonia retaliated and said, "This place is now my home. I don't have to seek anyone's permission to come here. No one can stop me from visiting Rae Bareli," she said at Lalganj railway station, accusing UP CM Mayawati of obstructing progress by cancelling the land allocation for a rail coach factory nearby.
Lamenting the poor quality of education in India compared to other countries, Rahul on Tuesday took a dig at his alma mater, St Stephen’s College.
