Mangaluru, Sep 6: Basavaraja Bisarahalli, a 91-years-old retired teacher hailing from Bisarahalli, Koppal has proved that there is no age limit for learning. Basavaraja, who had retired after serving as a teacher in a school in Mangaluru, had an ambition within him to secure a PhD degree. Therefore, he has set aside his age and appeared for examination at Ballari, Hampi University, on September 3.
He started his teaching profession at Kavaloor school and went on to teach in several schools in the state. He taught in a school in Mangaluru in 1992 and retired there. But his desire to secure PhD was always troubling him. Therefore, his efforts towards it were relentless.
He was a freedom fighter and there were several impediments on his way to PhD. He had secured MA from Karnataka University in the past, but did not get 55% marks required for PhD. Therefore, he faced the examination at Hampi University again and received 66% marks. Finally, he wrote the PhD examination in Vachana Sahitya research division.
Basavaraja Bisarahalli has four sons and a daughter. He has also authored five books.
