Mangaluru, Sep 6: Kalyanmayee unit of Airport Authority of India (AAI), Mangaluru International Airport, conducted an awareness campaign on menstrual hygiene here at Kunjathbail on Thursday, September 6, under the CSR initiative of AAI.
This is the fourth awareness programme on menstrual hygiene by Kalyanmayee unit. Previously, the awareness was conducted at Government First Grade College for Women at Balmatta, Government Women’s Polytechnic College, Bondel and Sri Narayana Guru Sabhagraha, Permude.
Social worker Sandhya who was the key speaker said, “Menstruation starts around the age of 12. In some places, women are not supposed to go out and they are not supposed to touch anyone during menstruation. There will be lot of restrictions for the children during the menstruation period, which is not right. We should not make them feel stressed. They should feel free and comfortable during that period.
“Sanitary napkins should not be used for more than eight hours. Make sure that your inner wear is also changed. Using sanitary napkins is good to maintain hygiene and is also comfortable. Avoid using cloth pads. Maintain hygiene by taking bath daily. Keeping body clean avoids infection. Even while disposing used pads, throw them into dustbins by wrapping them in a piece of paper. Maintaining health and hygiene during menstruation is very important,” she added.
