Bengaluru, Sep 6: BJP legislators staged a protest in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Vidhana Soudha premises on Thursday demanding a CBI probe into the alleged scam in the Wakf properties.

The BJP protest is staged in the wake of the recent high court verdict directing the state government to make the controversial report by Anwar Manippady on the encroachment of Wakf properties.

The BJP leaders have been alleging that several leaders of Congress and JD (S) are allegedly involved in the encroachment of Wakf properties.

“The Congress-JD(S) coalition in appeasement politics and claiming it alone safeguarding minorities. If the government is truly committed, why isn’t the Manippady report being tabled in the legislature? That too, despite strictures by courts?” BJP general secretary and MLA C T Ravi said.

The report had charged that Wakf properties to the tune of nearly Rs 2 lakh crore had been encroached across the state and named several state and national Congress leaders.

Anwar Manippady, the former Karnataka State Minority Commission chairman, who prepared the report, submitted it to the government six years ago.

BJP leaders R Ashoka, S Suresh Kumar, D H Shankara Murthy, Abdul Azeem, Kota Srinivasa Poojary, Mahantesh Kavatagimath and others took part in the protest.
