Mangaluru: Unidentified pedestrian dies after being hit by car

Mangaluru, Sep 6: Traffic police station, Pandeshwar has sought help from public in identification of an unknown pedestrian who was killed when he was hit by a vehicle while crossing the road at Kottara Chowki flyover, on September 3.

The deceased person was knocked down and seriously injured by a car at around 8.50 pm. He was admitted to A J hospital that night. A case was registered at traffic south police station, Pandeshwar. Unfortunately, the man died in the hospital in the wee hours on September 5 without responding to treatment.

Police station has requested public to inform if he has any relatives to their city station telephone No. 0824-2220800, traffic west station No. 0824-2220524, mobile No. 9480802325 or traffic sub division Mangaluru No. 0824-2220823, mobile No. 9480802312.

The deceased is aged between 30 to 35 years, has a long face, wheatish complexion, black hair and strong physique. He was wearing black coloured short sleeve T-shirt and brown trousers. He has ‘Amma’ in English written on his right hand and has a black mark on his right armpit.

    Chances of perishing in a road accident or by electric shock are very high in Mangluru because of sloppy infrastructure and reckless driving!!

    RIP Brother, This is us and this is the reality Ladies & Gents, These days every one has mobile phone & ATM Cards . I am very sure instead of helping him & saving his life some one must have stolen his phone & purse . People please spare those who really in need at that stage. Yes, we have lot of fantastic people in and around Mangalore but this number is rapidly going down.

    It is shameful and pathetic that an economically prosperous town like Mangaluru has hardly any pavements, let alone pedestrian crossings. Even storm water gutters have become extinct. Many owners show off high end vehicles but lack basic road ethics. The town is senselessly littered with innumerable vehicles mostly driven by impatient & unconcerned drivers. Often I have noticed two wheelers, autos and cars using pavements to avail of free parking & there are instances where low pavements are used as short cut roads to go ahead of traffic jams or avoid humps. How could we have made it to the list of proposed “Smart City”. We are quick to change the name from “Mangalore” to “Mangaluru” and slow in providing the basic right to our citizens to walk safely. Hope the authorities take cognizance from such an unfortunate incident and urgently approve plans for pavements & crossings in the lager interests of public safety. Most importantly unscrupulous drivers need to be booked.

    Does anyone think about drivers!
    I have seen pedestrian cross roads ordering a running car to stop by giving hand signal with one meter gap. Even if that driver wishes to stop can that vehicle stop? How about cars buses behind him. Every time there is an accident it is not every time a driver's fault

    Then how will the elderly and children cross without zebra crossings at important junctions; just see how the Japanese drivers respect pedestrians??

    Eva, Kirem driver's of buses think that they own the roads, even when a person is crossing using the zebra crossing (which are all gone after a good summer if heat and rain) the drivers do not care for the pedestrians. The vehicle riders and driver's use the footpath for parking and driving purpose. This can be noticed at the Light house Hill area. Even students of college's. RIP to person dead in this case.

    Mr Rudolf and Mr Dylan I agree with your views except labeling more bus drivers alone.
    I am explaining one of several situations where pedestrians should be also blamed.
    Which driver slows down at zebra crossing? If at all one existing! I take this opportunity to talk about our hampankatta service bus stand. Which elected MP will look at it and when?

    Traffic police here are very lackadaisical, bus drivers care two hoots for them; most car drivers too have little concern for pedestrians!!

    Tragic death,and suddenly while someone was careful enought ot drive according to the rule.still tragic is none knows him and home people must be knowing what and where he is.Hope someone form his Tatoo will recognize him.It is always better one has his ID card with him in pocket.So one can recongize and family will be reported.May his soul rest in peace.
