Bengaluru, Sep 7: "If chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy, is able to prove that my son had met officials of income tax department as alleged by him, I will retire from active politics," said former chief minister and state BJP president, B S Yeddyurappa. He also said that he is considering the prospects of filing libel suit against the chief minister.
Speaking to media persons in the city on Thursday September 6, Yeddyurappa called upon the chief minister to tender an apology to the people of the state. He said that Kumaraswamy was not right in making baseless allegations against his son, in spite of being in a responsible position. He deemed it a crime which cannot be condoned.
He noted that the chief minister has issued another irresponsible and baseless statement about conspiracy being hatched to topple his government. "Income tax officials have issued official clarification that no one had met them as alleged. Therefore, the chief minister was lying in issuing this statement. I hereby urge the chief minister to apologize to the people of the state within 24 hours. Alternatively, if he proves his statement, I will stay away from politics henceforth," he stated.
