Mangaluru: CM Kumaraswamy felicitates Asian Games gold medal winner Poovamma

Mangaluru, Sep 7: M R Poovamma, who upheld the prestige of the state and the country in Asian Games, was felicitated by chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday, September 7. Poovamma was handed over cheques of Rs 25 lac for winning a gold medal, Rs 15 lac for receiving silver medal and an assurance of providing site by the chief minister at the beginning of Dakshina Kannada progress review meeting.

The decision to honour Poovamma was taken after holding discussions with the deputy commissioner when the chief minister reached the district this morning. The chief minister hoped that the felicitation may be an inspiration to special achievers in the state. “The government is bound to provide more support to special achievers,” he said.

Poovamma expressed her gratitude to the chief minister for honouring her so soon after her achievement. Women and children’s development department minister Dr Jayamala congratulated Poovamma. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, other elected representatives and officials were present.
