Bengaluru, Sep 8: Well known Jnanpith awardee, Girish Karnad, is in trouble for holding a placard with ‘Me too urban naxal’ written on it on the first death anniversary of activist and journalist Gauri Lankesh on Sep 5. A lawyer who is pleading the case for all those who are accused of her murder has lodged a police complaint against him on Friday, September 7.
Jan Jagriti Samiti and Sri Rama Sene too have complained against him asking for legal action with police commissioner T Suneel Kumar alleging that Girish Karnad abets naxalism.
Advocate Amrutesh N P demanded immediate arrest of Girish Karnad alleging that the placard around the neck of Girish Karnad that he is an urban naxal is intended to propagate, promote and abet violent criminal activities of naxals.
The police station at Vidhana Soudha has reportedly transferred the complaint to Halasur Gate police station as the incident took place in their jurisdiction. Several activists including Karnad took part in the event held outside the residence of late Lankesh. They also protested against house arrest of five activists who are allegedly linked with Maoists.
