In his inaugural address, DC Sasikanth said “I am happy to participate in this event because this is a programme of setting up of a direction of future for the students. The encouragement and recognition given by the organizers to the students will take them to new heights and encourage them to dream of more achievements. I think this event in itself is a message to all of us, which consists of the two programmes, one of recognition of achievements and another of providing help to the needy. It states that along with the individual growth, we need to contribute to social growth also. We have certain responsibilities as individuals towards the society. We should not forget it,"
"During the last rains, we faced many issues in our district. The people of some taluks faced many difficulties. A village near Sampaje was completely destroyed. Within hours thousands of people lost everything. But the people of Dakshina Kannada showed their generosity and came forward with helping hands. Many times, I felt that the news tags like 'Dakshina Kannada is a communally sensitive place' is a fabricated story. Here people are living with a helping mentality cutting crossing the walls of community and religion. The people of Dakshina Kannada have great humanism.” he added.
In his welcoming speech Devaraj K said “In 2017, on the occasion of Dasara, former minister B Janardhana Poojary decided to distribute education scholarships, health scholarships and other scholarships to the needy. The then deputy commissioner Dr Jagadish launched this programme. Today we are organizing the programme with the help of donors and well-wishers. We will continue the same in coming years also.”
As many as 554 deserving students were given the education scholarships. Beneficiaries who applied for the health scholarships also received the same and social welfare funds were also distributed to those who lost their homes in the last rains.
