Mangaluru: Bharat Bandh - Holiday declared for schools on Sept 10 in DK, Udupi districts

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Sep 9: Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada district, Sasikanth Senthil, has declared holiday for schools and colleges on Monday, September 10 on account of Bharat Bandh.

The decision has been taken with the view of maintaining peace during the bandh observed by many organizations and political parties in the country against the hike in fuel prices.

The opposition parties have given the call for the nationwide bandh.

All services, except emergency ones, are expected to be closed during the dawn to dusk bandh.

Udupi Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis also declared holiday for all schools and colleges for Udupi district.

Congress calls 'Bharat bandh' on Monday against fuel price hike

New Delhi, Sep 9 (IANS): The Congress on Sunday called for a 'Bharat Bandh' on Monday to protest against the steep rise in diesel and petrol prices and the falling value of the rupee against the dollar.

Congress leader Ajay Maken said the party wants petrol and diesel to be brought under the Goods and Services Tax (GST), which would decrease the price by Rs 15-18.

He said there should be an immediate reduction in central excise duty and excessive VAT in the states.

About 20 political parties are participating in the protest, Maken told the media.

He said the Centre had earned Rs 11 lakh crore in the last four years through excise duty on fuel and this money was taken from the common man to fill the government's coffers.

It's sad that some prominent schools and colleges in DK have sent circulars for students and staff to attend colleges compulsorily! Who will be responsible if anything untoward happens!?. How is that these institutions flout administration orders so openly!?

Introspection time for BJP & Modi, they will realise India is not just "Gujarath & Banaras"...
You can't hide everything behind your Bullet train and surgical strikes. You can never wipe out the legacy of Nehru behind S.Patel's statue. (no matter how big it is).
Radios don't tuneup to listen "Mann ki baat" anymore. Any Incidents of communal violence in coming days, Obviously blame would directly go on Amit Shah.
All in all Modi magic is waning out , L.K.Advani is long forgotten and its alarm bells for BJP.

    Mr. Ramesh S. , Mangalore:
Even I do not support Bundh, but it is inevitable The District administration has to take precautions for loss of life and property going by the previous experience in DK and Udupi. The entire transport sector including City private buses and KSRTC, taxis and auto rickshaw will participate in the bundh. What do you expect people to beat the drums on the road? Will you take responsibility to maintain the smooth function of the State Administration?
The owner of the the city bus plying in our route stays next to our house, next door. Even he mentioned to me that he would not take risk. When the mob plays, law does not work. You should remember this.
I have seen enough bundhs including in Mumbai, Mysore and Mangalore. The Mob has its day. Do not expect policemen to be there at each and every place.
Easy to comment but reality is different. Jai Hind

When Crude Oil prices had reached US$ 137/- per barrel during UPA II ruling under earlier PM Mr. Manmohan Singh, the petroleum prices did not reach this level. He managed the economy well inspite of all the odds. The present "L" board government has to learn lot from Mr. Mammohan Singh. Jai Hind

Sensible thing to do would be to protest when the crude prices were going down and the petrol price remained same. Now there is no point in bandh as the crude price is increasing and secondly India cannot import fuel from Iran.

Even i don't support any sort of bandh as it was a tool used by Mahatma Gandhi to cause loss to British and thereby make them quit India, today I support this protest because BJP should be taught a lesson!. They should introspect and see what is happening today is simply the mirror image!. Today there is no need to shout slogans or give speeches to BJP by opposition parties! All those are available in youtube which BJPeees created!. Just take them and replay!!!

PROTEST REQUIRED FOR UNNECESSARY PRICE HIKE BUT NEED TO ANALYST THE IMPACT OF PROTEST! I DONT SUPPORT THE PETROL PRICE INCREASE BUT HATE THIS BANDH. IT IS THE MOST CRUEL THING AND INCONVENIENCE TO THE RESIDENCE AND TOURIST. WHOEVER CALL THESE BUNDHS WHETHER BJP OR CONGRESS NEEDS TO BE PUNISHED.
