Udupi: Warring BJP and Congress leaders happy after IGP visits city

Udupi, Sep 13: Leaders of both Congress and BJP met Arun Chakravarthy, inspector general of police (IGP), western range at the Inspection Bungalow on Wednesday, September 12 in order to reduce the intensity of the cases that were registered by the police on the activists of both the parties during the Bharath Bandh that was called on Monday, September 10.

IGP Chakravarthy had a discussion with SP Lakshman Nimbargi on the issue of lathi charge and other clashes that erupted between the activists of both the parties during the Bharath Bandh. The Congress team that met the IGP was represented by Oscar Fernandes, member of Rajya Sabha, Pratap Chandra Shetty, MLC, Vinay Kumar Sorake, former minister, Janardhan Tonse, district Congress president and B Narasimhamurthy. BJP team included Kota Srinivas Poojary, leader of opposition of legislative council, Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, district president of BJP, Yashpal Suvarna, president fish sellers' federation, Kappettu Praveen Shetty and Ravi Amin.

Leaders of both the political parties appealed the police officials to remove the attempt to murder column under which the cases on the activists are registered and apply some milder sections of IPC. However, the charge sheet will be filed as such in the case of the attack on the police personnel. It is learnt that this step was taken by leaders of both the parties in order facilitate the activists of both the parties to take part in the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Meanwhile, treatment is underway at the district hospital for those who got admitted there after the clashes on Monday.

    How can criminal acts be compromised.

    So it's a clear indication that cases are filed at the will of the police and the political wings and not as per absolute facts. Cases can be diluted or can possibly harsher based on the influence or the grudge of those involved
