Mangaluru, Sep 14: A team of senior officials from the Central government visited areas in Mangaluru, Bantwal, Puttur and Sullia which are affected by recent heavy rain and floods. The team will be submitting a report of destruction to the government.
Officials from various departments in the leadership of deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil provided detailed information to the team. The team inspected the broken retaining wall of Thumbay dam which supplies water to the city. They also saw the broken Mularpatna Bridge, reviewed the difficulties for transport in the absence of bridge and provision of alternative arrangement.
They took stock of the loss due to Kole Roga for areca cultivation in Vitlapadnooru village. The team visited areca plantations in Kaniyoor and obtained information of the crop.
They inspected the damage caused due to landslide on Kallaje school road in Indabettu grama panchayat.
The team inspected landslides on Bengaluru-Mangaluru road in Shiradi Ghats. The team later went to review the destruction at Sakleshpur, Hassan.
Central finance ministry deputy secretary Bharatendu Kumar Singh, rural development ministry’s deputy secretary Manik Chandra Pandith and roads and highways department regional official Sadananda Babu formed part of the team. Additional deputy commissioner Kumar, Puttur sub-division officer Krishnamurthy, agricultural department officials, PWD officials and horticultural department officials were present.
