Udupi: Over-speeding lorry hits scooter- rider dies on spot

Udupi, Sep 15: A lorry hit a scooter at Ayyappa Nagara in Hejamady on national highway 66 and the rider died on the spot on Saturday, September 15.

Jayaraj is the person deceased. He is from Nejar.

As per the details available, the lorry, carrying palm oil, was going to Sringeri from Panambur. Due to over-speeding, it hit the road divider at Hejamady and overturned towards the opposite lane of the highway. It hit a passing by scooter on the highway and the rider Jayaraj got trapped under the lorry.

It took almost half an hour for the people to take out Jayaraj from under the lorry. By that time, he had breathed his last.

Jayaraj was going to Pakshikere from Udupi.

The driver of the lorry has been arrested.

Padubidri police have registered a case.

    I saw the accident spot yesterday while I was enroute to Udupi, I have few points to public regarding this accident and general viewpoint. I drive Commerce Taxi , The accident took place right after crossing Hejamady Toll Gate, I'm in Dilemma why has government(Transport Ministry) made Speed Governors to us (Max Speed 80per hour) (Commercial Taxi's and self drive cars) when we have ABS and good features, Look here the truck was over speeding , We fall in trouble while we want to overtake such long vehicles, And these Trucks drive only on right lane which is only meant for Driving while in high speed ,it is really horrible to overtake these vehicles and such vehicles do not have speed Governors?

    Lol bakwaas rule of Transport Ministry , I have seen school buses run 80+ , Why don't private Buses don't have speed Governors? Why isn't it mandatory to them ? They run like Yamadhootha , honk and irritate us and put our lives in risk , nowadays . We see many accidents in and around of Mangalore, Because it's chalte hai attitude, People don't wear helmets , Lack of following Traffic rules , lack of following Lane Rules !! Less traffic police in Junctions of Udupi when compared to Mangalore, Trucks driving in speed lane , no one follows , Why don't when will Transport Ministry will open their eyes and educate citizens about such things , I wish Live Traffic Monitoring like foreign countries comes in force all over India so that such accidents are tried to brought down.
    Hope some makes petition to Higher Authority and sees that we save the precious lives!!!

    I knew Jayraj. He was a careful driver unfortunately he died for no fault of his. Raju was a good person, hard working and always willing to help others. My deepest condolences to his family. RIP Raju.

    NH66 is a death trap. People have time to make strike for unwanted reasons. This is genuine and to be taken as serious. I think in India NH 66 Mangalore to Kundapura is the dangerous road.
