Mangaluru, Sep 25: Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal members have condemned government’s decision of shortening Dasara holidays for schools this year.
Asserting that giving holidays for schools during Dasara was an old custom, they decried government circular of deducting holidays to make up for the holidays declared due to rain/natural calamities.
They have submitted a request to Dakshina Kannada district education officer urging to give Dasara holidays from October 7th till 21st as decided earlier and not to reduce holidays meant for Navaratri.
Bajrang Dal activists have alleged that the option given to schools to hold additional classes on Saturdays to enable teachers to complete syllabus, allowing freedom to schools to sanction Christmas holidays as they liked and reducing Navaratri festival holidays shows the government's double standards.
VHP divisional secretary Sharan Pumpwell, Mangaluru district president Jagadish Shenava, district president Gopal Kuthar, district secretary Shivanand Mendon, organiser Bhujanga Kulal and Pravin Kuthar were present.
