Bishop Franco case: Nun’s sister files complaint

Kochi, Sep 28 (DC): The office of the Inspector General of Police (Kochi Range) came under a cloud in the wake of the sister of the nun who has accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal of raping her filing a complaint in the police seeking a probe into circumstances of photographs of a private function in her family attended by the Bishop being circulated in social media.

In a complaint filed in Kalady police station on Thursday, sister of the aggrieved nun expressed apprehensions about the bishop and his supporters tampering and misusing the photographs to denigrate her family.

The complainant stated that she has asked the studio owner to hand over copies of the photographs when police requested. The request was made through telephone call from the number 9497998992 which was later found to be used by Ernakulam Range IG.

She also sought the police to take action against the persons circulating the picture. In the complaint registered with police the woman has pointed out that the photographs were taken when the Bishop came to her house for the first communion of her child. The function was held a day after the bishop first sexually assaulted the nun on May 5, 2014.

The complainant also pointed out that counsel for the bishop has presented the photographs in the high court on Thursday during the hearing of the bail petition of the bishop. The complainant also said PC George MLA, openly working for the bishop, is also in possession of the photographs.

    Religious places just become breeding ground on account of religious leaders. People lost trust almost with such happenings. Some people in this forum..even not able to digest the things happen and are standing in favour bishop. God give them enlightment to look into towards incident in broad mind. When you support the victim it means you are also found guilty in the house of lord. You cannot change the things by writing big comments it's nothing but for own satisfaction. Please try to digest the truth. Such incideents occur often and poor nuns kept quiet in the interest of church as large followers kept faith in it. We should apprecicate such nuns all together for keeping quiet long suffering alone. God bless them all..who sacrificed there beautiful life leaving behind family members and to keep church activities alive. We not at all ignore it. Whatever it may be let them seek justice.

    Many Catholics have used a priest or nun in the family for many advantages - which have nothing to do with their faith.

    Here we have the nun's sister having the bishop's presence at home for the first communion of her child. Imagine the impression she is creating among the relatives and friends!

    There are many other advantages, of course.

    But when the bishop transferred the nun - once the Superior General over multiple states - to a little convent at the distant periphery, the nun would be deprived of all the advantages she previously enjoyed.

    With the photo of the bishop and the nun at nun's sister's house, on the very second day of the alleged first instance of rape, the nun's side has obviously lost public sympathy.

    So, this new case on the single photo that unravelled the great drama and caused a most unexpected anti-climax to the case.

    The single photo virtually destroyed the media campaign as well.

    Rape is a crime with the highest capital punishment is death as per IPC. So if convicted has to get the death penalty. Marriage is not the justification LOL.

    I am closely reading the news from the beginning of this incident. I find something fishy in the whole case altogether. I have nothing to say or accuse anyone. Because the case is in the court. I hope the justice for the persons will be done after investigating the case bit by bit.

    The case is getting more curious by the day. Alleged rape on 05.05.2014 four years ago and memory of the complainant and the five witnessing nuns fresh in their minds in 2018. A day later after the alleged rape, the Bishop came to the Nuns sisters house on 06.05.2014. Why was the alleged the rape not reported just a day after its occurence and reprted only after four years. Is it a case of Grapes turning sour after four years.

    As per Law, an acccused is innocent until proved guilty. In this case the accused was subject to days of media trial coupled with five or more Nuns putting pressure by their protest in public outside the High Court for days with their stated aim of getting Bishop arrested. The Bishop was condemmed even before the trial began.

    Having achieved their aim, it was expected that they would withdraw into their convent and be incommunicado with the outside world. sooner than later they were in full media glare with their meeting the CM of the state.

    Obviously, a larger narrative is unfolding in this episode with invisible forces using these nuns to settle scores with the Church in Kerala. A lie detector test of the Bishop, the aggrevied Nun, and the five nuns who gave evidence as witnesses against the Bishop for the alleged rape that occured four years ago will unravel the whole truth. Those guilty of giving false evidence must be prosecuted be it the Bishop or the Nuns.

    Nothing wrong in speaking about the abuse you suffer even after many years because the trauma underwent needs some time to recover and muster courage. Similarly there is an ongoing scandal going on in Chile where middle aged men and seminarians are coming out stating their abuse experiences they suffered as young boys at the hands of Catholic Priests.

    Powerful Bishop with the help of Goon MP could have coerced the victim. Moreover the victim is saying that , she had registered repeated complaints several times with other Bishops and no one was taking action . Mighty a bishop might be who had men force to hold the Kerala police in Jalandhar. Let the law take its course .

    As per the reports, she and her supporters had ongoing battles with the Superior General after being defeated in the elections for the top (CEO-level) post. The bishop sided with the then current Speror General and odered this nun to a distant convent, at a low post.

    Unable to accept the humiliation, she then complained about the bishop to other leaders - only about the transfer.

    When no one came to help her on the transfer, the complaint changed to get the media and legal attention.

    But then the single photo has demolished most of the myths created by the nun and her family - who stood to lose many advantages due to the transfer.

    IN EVERY NUNS CONVENT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR A MAN TO ENTER INSIDE.
    IN MY FAMILY ALSO THERE IS A NUN.
    EVEN THOUGH WE ARE CLOSE BLOOD RELATIVES WE CANNOT ENTER INN.
    BUT THERE IS A PARLOUR HALL WHERE ANY RELATIVES ALLOWED TO SIT AND TALK FOR SOME TIME.
    TEA/COFFEE/ SNACKS MAY BE SERVED IN PARLOUR ITSELF
    HERE CAN ANYONE TELL ME. HOW DID THE BISHOP ENTER WITHOUT PERMISSION?
    OR IF AT ALL HE ENTERED WHY THERE WAS NO SHOUT OR LOUD CRY OR NOISE? SO THAT ALL WOULD JOIN TOGETHER AND THRASH BISHOP OUT!!1

    @John mangalore /Kuwait,it is not sure or said she is being raped in convent.She was helping in church for the mass ,and also helping to give doctrine lessons.When one wants ,there are enough chances and ways to go through your wishes.we dont know and dont want too how and when it was done.But one thing I cant understand is what connection is there to Bishops visit to nuns sisters house and fotos?who is making problems with it?strange.Usually there isnt to complain when a priest or Bishop visits someones house on the occasion of communion.what is so special in fotos is not known.
